Well that changes the complexion of the event somewhat…
This is an interesting quote from the article.
It raises the question as she enters the twilight of her career of whether Kerr needs the Matildas as much as Australia needs Sam Kerr?
I’d argue the Matildas would be better off without her as the team play breaks down and resorts to Kerr ball.
Something about this whole thing doesn’t sit well with me. This may be my own bias thou.
I honestly don’t think its just you. Aside from the things that I’ve already mentioned, why did it take a media article for the Australian FA to find out about this? I’m not going to go after our own FA for that, though. If they weren’t told, how would they have known? That one’s on Kerr.
My brain is too scattered at this time of night to think too clearly, but surely there will be other things about this that do not stack up.
Once the dust settles, I see a very messy situation brewing. Kerr probably has to be stripped of the captaincy, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see her not take it quietly. It may even culminate in big damage to the Matildas brand with the combination of the incident and the fallout from it.
I hope it doesn’t go down this way but it would not surprise me at all.
At least it’s a slightly different way for our sport to shoot it’s self in the foot.
Laughs in Bozza
I can see Kerr getting stripped off her captaincy as being extremely divisive. You’ll have a portion of the people applauding for the alcohol charge, a portion of the people complaining it’s due to the racism charges, a portion of the people complaining because it wasn’t that bad and then another portion of the people applauding because she’s a racist.
These are all individual views not my views
I reckon she’ll quit international football in a huff and have a giant sulk if she’s censured in any way.
She seems to have started believing her own press.
The court case has begun
Ms Kerr described the entire situation as distressing and “a heated moment”.
Grace Forbes, defending, said: "Nobody disputes the words that were said.
“But simple words, even words like these, do not make you guilty of a criminal offence.”
She added: “The words were a comment, however poorly expressed, about positions of power, about privilege, and how those things might colour perception.”
She reeeaalllly can’t handle her piss.
Pretty hateful and racist stuff.
A famous footballer using power and privilege of police is also pretty braindead from the defence.
She threw up in a cab, smashed the rear window (new information I believe), and then had the smarts to bring some sort of historical oppression struggle into the mix for being arrested for it. What a clown.
Oh and a nice bit of using the gender card thrown into it as well
You guys are f***ing stupid if you believe him over two women
There are some amazingly large chips on this person’s shoulder.
Lovell told the court when he tried a number of times to tell them what the driver had said, they kept interrupting him claiming they were scared and that he should believe their account over a taxi driver. He said when he raised the cost of the damage, Kerr used her phone to show him how much money she had in her bank account, as if to say she could easily afford to pay for any damage if she wanted to.
Stay classy
I don’t think she’ll be worming her way out of this one.
I remember once I puked out the window of a black London cab & the guy just kept on driving & talking to me as if it was normal. When it got out of the cab the puke had mysteriously slid off. I was amazed ( because I was drunk )
Clearly this is Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, not Australia’s
Well, yes, but she’s also Daniel Kerr’s sister, and its not exactly a secret how much trouble he got into.
Obviously she’s been a huge fuckwit, but do you really reckon she caused the cop genuine alarm or distress?
Just reading about this. Lucky to not suffer the same fate as Cousins…though I only read a few lines of the controversy section on wiki so perhaps he did.
Either way, looks like the both should stay away from any substance.
I would say there’s still a whole bunch that would be played out with potentially more footage. Still the start of the trial, but if she was being aggressive, which by the sounds of it she was, considering they kicked out a window from a taxi, the cop very may well been alarmed and distressed. Especially if she started claiming racism. Most cops would now have heavy training on that, claiming they were arresting her, because they were white, could very well distress a cop and make him think he may lose his job.
There has to be more to the racially aggravated disorder charge than what was in that video.
