Wonder who the new CEO for the Mariners will be?

The current CEO of Football Tasmania would be a good shout.

I think he’s down in Tassie for one specific reason, so can’t see him leaving till that happens.

Hes married to his sister?

bugger

Throw the fucking book at him

He’s no angel.

Demonio Torres?

Agreed that he can rot in jail if he’s guilty of any of that stuff. Absolute garbage. Mariners would do a good thing by sidelining him until the proceedings have officially completed. The club and the league don’t need that kind of thing hanging over them.

Central Coast football star Angel Torres has been charged with rape, assault and stalking.

The 24-year-old Colombian was arrested at a Terrigal property on Monday ā€œover the alleged sexual assaultā€ of a 21-year-old woman, NSW Police confirmed.
He was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated sexual assault with deprivation of liberty, two counts of common assault and one of stalking, court records confirm.

Torres, who joined Central Coast at the start of this season and has scored 13 goals in 23 games, has been granted conditional bail and will front Gosford Local Court on May 6.

The Australian Professional Leagues, which runs the A-League, said Football Australia had imposed a no-fault suspension on Torres.

ā€œIt is important to note that in imposing this interim suspension Football Australia is making no finding of guilt or fault in respect of the alleged offences with which Mr Torres has been charged,ā€ an APL spokesperson said.

ā€œThe APL will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders and won’t be making any further comment at this time.ā€

The Mariners have been contacted for comment.

Torres is a leading player in the team, which is vying to win the A-League Men’s premiership and retain their championship under coach Mark Jackson.

He’s been stood down Indefinitely by the FA under a ā€˜no fault’ clause. Similar to what happens in the NRL I guess. Same thing happened to Ruon Tongyik

Earlier this month, his manager tweeted that he would not be seeking a contract extension from the Mariners, and he had received ā€œoffers from 15 other countriesā€.

With what’s come to light this evening, I read that as ā€œTorres & his manager knew what was coming, and he’s found 15 countries with no extradition treaty with Australiaā€.

Torres will also have an issue when his visa expires. There is no way he will be granted a bridging visa which probably means he will have to go into detention until the trial and subsequent verdict.

Am I the only one that thinks it’s wierd that they let him out on bail? I mean he’s a flight risk isn’t he?

A little bit, but with what he’s charged with he’s more a danger to the community than a flight risk.

Part of his bail conditions would probably be handing in his passport to the Police, and if its not, he’d be flagged the moment his passport was scanned at the airport.

No doubt that’s all true but I’d argue a risk to the community is worse than a flight risk

Whilst not downplaying the seriousness of the incident, this is a massive blow to the Mariners’ hopes of taking the Premiership. I’m sure the whole team will be affected by this.

Is there a difference in being charged with something and being found guilty by courts, no matter what any one person has been accused of?

I’m trying to think of similar situations in football globally, all i can think off the top of my head was the Cristiano Ronaldo case, i’m sure there is many many more.

Either way, anyone found guilty deserve what they get.

A fairly massive difference, though the reputation takes a hit either way.

Not football, but this recent case of an international cricketer, with a similar charge, though seemingly different reason.

Given what he has been charged with and after what happened in Parkes over the weekend, I’m surprised he was bailed.
