SFC vs Asia - ACL2 2024/25

Chicken and the egg there. I probably wont make more than one home game now. An extra hour each way mid week at night…

Come on, Japan work trip in october. It could possible

Seen a post somewhere that the AFC has a rule where only one stadium can be used throughout a club’s campaign.

Really not happy with Kogarah but will be good to see some different opponents

Presumably SFS was not available on the 19th ahead of a possible NRL semi final on the 20th, and then AFC both (a) insists on the same stadium for all games, (b) has no inclination to be flexible on scheduling around stadium conflicts.

Not being flexible is just not like the AFC

Possibly different for the knockout stage. CCMs Lebanon based Cup opponents hosted games in multiple different countries

“We want lobster, we get lobster!”

Such a fucking tinpot confederation. But I suppose this way we’ll save that $50K having to cover up the Allianz Stadium sign 3 times, even though Allianz are an AFC sponsor.

Flights booked for Hiroshima away, locked in!

You can joke. But it is a pretty moving and solemn site.

And the Japanese school kids, who you will undoubtedly run into en masse definitely do understand it. And are very much taught what I view as a reflectionist viewpoint which seems quite appropriate.

Went there in 2011 having read nothing in particular about the site before hand and found the Peace Park an absolutely astonishingly designed memorial. That view from the eternal flame, through the cenotaph, onto the Dome… beyond powerful.

I’ve been to Nagasaki and it’s a pretty harrowing experience.
The nuclear museum there is tough to walk through.

I think the strangest spot for me was standing underneath the exact spot that the bomb exploded, in this really nice park.

Nagasaki is also a really nice place to visit in general.

The equivalent in Hiroshima is just a discreet plaque on a side street, outside the corner of a ~4 story apartment building. Couldn’t imagine heading out onto one of those balconies on the daily.

Yeah that would be a strange experience.

This is Nagasaki hypocentre when I went there.

On the flip side, I’ll make all 3… i know it’s not as well connected by PT, but neither is any ground of an appropriate size for these matches.

One month to go until the first home game, I have started the spruik at work, plugging the game to all the students in my classes.

I remember some past ACL games at the old SFS I managed to wrangle 15 or 20 to come along, would be great if I could get a nice bunch along for this one.
