They’re the ones stopping people getting to work.
We’re the ticket machines turned off?

You think the only people who make the rail network run are the drivers?
Are they on strike as well?
Mate it’s not even just the RTBU.
The Electrical Trades Union’s (ETU) refusal to conduct maintenance overnight on Tuesday was responsible for significant delays earlier on Wednesday, according to Sydney Trains’ chief executive, Matt Longland. But actions by several of the combined rail unions – stuck in negotiations with the government for a new pay deal – were contributing to the disruptions.
Longland said he had received advice from the ETU that it intended to continue maintenance bans on Wednesday evening, an indication the commuter chaos would continue on Thursday.
That’s in solidarity.
They’re not asking for anything.
It’d cost the government a fucktonne of money to run payroll every single day. Plus consider the fact that you’ll have overtime being requested last second and they want penalties for anything that’s missed. I can guarantee you they’ll be making a shit tonne of money just from the penalties alone.
Also bargaining chips? They haven’t dropped a single concession. You understand this is 8 months in the making yeah? They’ve been negotiating for 8 months and there’s been zero movement from the Union’s position. Again, that’s not negotiation. That’s “give me what I want or I’ll have a tantrum.” If these were concessions, then there should be movement on both sides
They are party to the bargaining.
That’s the log of claims (from August last year - not sure if there is an updated one).
They would have members who are employed by Transport NSW/ Sydney Trains or whatever they are called these days.
Where did you see that? I don’t see it in their log of claims.
Also where do you get this from?
The log of claims happens (i.e this is what we want). The parties meet, discuss, and negotiate. The employer (in this case the government makes an offer. The employees don’t keep submitting logs of claims. They don’t get revised and officially submitted. There is no official “concession” document. The government can submit their offer and it’s either accepted or rejected.
I’ve represented employees during EBA negotiations, I was one of two representing about 200 employees. Typically you have employee reps, company reps and union reps. Each side is allowed to go through and present what they would like to be included in the new EBA being negotiated. Between each of log of claims, everyone will sit down at the table and negotiate their positions on each proposed change. Generally everyone is in the room together multiple times, otherwise it just doesn’t work. It then goes to the government where anyone proposing an EBA is required to show that it is “better off overall” vs the award.
In our case, the AMWU was asking for some pretty mental stuff that even the employees didn’t want. The craziest was there being no minimum requirement to achieve seniority in the company, thus receiving a pay rise (on top of the usual payrise) yearly rather based on increased responsibility. AMWU refused to accept the EBU but the company put it to vote and passed with 95% for.
We actually had the same issue that, despite about 5 rounds of negotiations, AMWU refused a single concession from their initial requirements, despite the fact that the company terms were generally quite good. Their negotiations weren’t proactive or even lead in a way that would allow conciliation during the process. They just attached the company and generally made themselves out to be absolute complete pricks.
It is interesting, and after giving such a big rise to police surely they were expecting this? But just because trains are important to a functioning city, doesn’t mean they deserve more? At the end of the day, it’s a pretty simple job just about anyone here could do with training. Yes there’s shit hours and some hazard pay, but that’s already factored in previously. Don’t need such a huge jump again, especially compared to other states.
Teachers now best paid in Australia, as they should be given cost of living.
But if you want to look at hazard pay, I think police and ambulance staff scraping people’s body parts off streets or out of cars or burnt out buildings should have a fair bit. Nurses? Doctors? Maybe it responsible for the injury, but deal with it day in day out as a core part of their job.
Ambulance staff got their payrise for parity in other states. Nurses and doctors still waaaay behind - see current psychologist clusterfuck which was oh so avoidable.
Cost of living in NSW is ridiculous. Public employees should be paid a wage enabling them to live here - ie the highest in the country. How to fund wages that are higher in NSW than in other states?
How about areas where there is more money flowing into NSW. Our stamp duty revenue is far higher for doing absolutely nothing, where does that go? How bout a corporate tax increase on the financial or law sectors for example that have a massive presence in Sydney and whose workers are the ones most likely driving the cost of living?
This is a really interesting one.
They need to be here for the system to function, but may not be able to afford it to a standard they need/desire. It’s a tough one to solve.
Where is hilly, he would love this type of socialist discussion!
Maybe we should arrange for a group of people to come together and come up with solutions that are in the best interests of society as a whole?
It’s not easy to solve but the longer it takes the harder it will be. All it takes is some leadership, but 24 hours news cycle/populist media/3-4 year election cycles will prevent that.
It’s more and more feeling like our society was based on the UK, with so much of its function depending on customs/traditions/duty of doing the right thing. Now replaced by self interest and pushing the letter of the law rather than what is morally correct, it feels like the whole experiment is unraveling.
It’s rich people either becoming politicians or paying politicians. Simple as that. You ban all that shit and i dare say suddenly politics becomes normal
We’ve come a long way in the opposite direction from “The light on the hill”
The light on the hill is a bushfire.
I feel like that’s just as much of a missnomer. By the looks of it, that would be starting salary of a train driver. Seek has them at an average of $110k to $120k. Financial Review reports it at $128k if you include all of their allowances and overtime. In 2019, SMH did an interview with a train driver and used tax data to indicate they were paid $114k (nationally). It’s only the RTBU that says they earn so little…
I just think as a general rule its 100% suspicious if an organisation lazily whites over an image to put their own content in. I guess nobody in the RTBU knows how to use Photoshop or GIMP.
Nobody anywhere in this country talks about their salary including super. That should be proof enough that it’s bad faith from 2GB.
Likely done intentionally to show it has been edited to show a difference. If you change it too well as to look perfect it can come across as deceptive (editing source images etc).
Also to highlight “mistake fixed”.
