Streets of our town - the Sydney thread

Polish woman I used to date made a really good one too.

Well according to Russia, Ukraine is theirs. So borscht is theirs too.

That’s just cause Serb food is just Cro food in Cyrilic.

Or Turkish, or Bosnian or Maco or Slovenian or who the fuck knows?

They’re very different ones though. The Ukrainian/Russian one has a whole load of veg in it. In comparison, the Polish one is cooked with veg but served clear with dumplings.

I think she was more surprised at the idea that it was a part of Sydney and not just a completely separate city.

But yeah, if I tell her about Glebe being an “inner city suburb” it would confuse her for sure, as it seems rather contradictory. For them, Glebe would be a neighbourhood. Annandale would be a suburb. Turramurra would be
I don’t know, another state.

It’s pretty straightforward for the most part in USA. If the area in question is within the city limits, it’s a neighbourhood. If it’s outside within a reasonable distance, it’s a suburb.

They do have (incorporated) cities within cities though. I.e. Beverly Hills is a city inside Los Angeles with its own police department/fire department/etc.

The thing that confuses me about the US is a metropolitan area across 4 states.

America is about as straightforward as a coiled snake.

Pierogi right?

Lisgar Gardens in the streets behind the Hornsby RSL

I’ve never heard of this place. Having said that, I’ve only ever driven through Hornsby.

I’m glad the gate is closed at 3:30pm Mon-Fri in a prompt manner. Good to see they don’t dilly-dally around with the closing ceremony. One does wonder, however. What happens on Weekends? What time does the gate open? Is it a prompt affair, or is it a an unwilling and delayed opening?

What’s Lisgard Garden’s opinion on Frango? Being an upper-North shore establishment, are they more partial to a Charcoal Charlies? Or is it a bit more bourgeoisie?

Not red rooster, that’s for damn sure!

Fark it’s a shark and that’s not a lark and it took a bit of bark & left a big mark. (sorry)

Everybody who has lived within a stones throw of the harbour knows that Bull Sharks are common. Go sit down at the seawall at Birchgrove around dusk/dawn and you’ll see the odd tail splash here and there. The amount of dogs that have gone missing off Birchgrove and Balmain is huge. Almost all the big bays in Sydney, especially on the Western side of the bridge and up into Middle Harbour are well-known Bull Shark breeding grounds. With the harbour becoming cleaner, it’s full of Sharks now.

I remember when I was a kid riding my bike down at Mort Bay one day and these kids were jumping off the old container wharf into the Bay and about 20 minutes later they all pelted out of the water in a hurry claiming they’d seen a shark. About an hour after that some lady was in hysterics because her Shitsu yappy thing had gone for a swim, and a shark took it.

If you’re swimming in the open harbour at Dusk, well it’s only a matter of time before you encounter one. Hope she recovers OK.

Wasn’t there that story years ago, of a guy in a National Park in the NT who’s dog was eaten by a crocodile. He called a Ranger and he apparently got fined for taking a dog into a National Park

In cases of nature vs people i’ll always side with nature. Like the orcas destroying rudders in the Gibraltar straight, maybe don’t sail there!

Cant worry about bullsharks when every three months a dog is being eaten by crocks in north queensland.

The publican at the Laura Hotel in Cape York who served me when I was there in 2015 got eaten by a croc last year.

Bullsharks are entitled to their sexual proclivities. Let a thousand blossoms bloom.

But I ain’t spending any time on it
