Streets of our town - the Sydney thread

I’ve only been to New York once but the sandwiches I had sucked arse. All over filled and over garnished.

The pizza and hot dogs made up for it though.

I havent been anywhere in the world that did a basic sandwich any better than Australia. Though your basic sandwich shop is hard to find these days.

Good one in Putney

Thats funny. Almost the complete reverse of my taste. I actually find new york pizza to be pretty average. I personally love detroit style and chicago deepdish over new york slice.

Not had too many hot dogs, so I cant comment.

Best sandwich I’ve had is in Florence. Simple mozarella and tomato. So simple yet amazing.

Yeah completely agree, I do like that you can pick it up by the slice which makes for a good quick lunch but largely I was unimpressed. I haven’t had Detroit style or deep dish but I have to imagine it’s still just going to be crap compared to Italian pizzas.

Best pizza and best gelato were in Florence.

The pizza had a thin no crust base, ham and a number of vegetables of which the artichoke was particularly memorable, wood fired and instead of a pizza box there was a flat piece of cardboard and a paper origami pyramid. Took it back to the garden in back of my hotel.

The gelato was made from green apple but not the green apples they sell at Coles. These green apples tasted like the street vendor had an uncle who tended an orchard of heirloom trees growing amongst the ruins of a Roman villa.

Prince Street Pizza in Nolita do a really good Detroit style Pepparoni by the slice.

Yeah its pretty good. Use to have a mate live directly across from it. We use to order from Prince St Pizza and then sit on her fire escape and eat it, whilst looking down at the suckers still waiting in line.

Only complaint with Prince St is that it can very oily at times.

Yet another stabbing in Sydney this morning.

This time just outside Sydney University. 14 year old boy arrested.

The Bathurst 1000 Craft Beer & High End Wine Festival is world famous.

Reckless Brewing is an award winning brewery.

Local wines and gin are very, very good.

The Bogan 1000 people mostly stay on the mountain these days.

If I was you I’d be quiet about those kinds of things

Anything I can do to increase demand and increase my property value is fine with me.

Is this the first documented case of “take the boy out of the city”?

Eddie, I’m just plain sick of winter.

Meeting up with a mate who lives in Rozelle. It’s been a while since I’ve drunk in the peninsula, but what are the best kid friendly pubs in the area? Metting up for a beer and a feed and will have the kids with me.

Workmate recommends Leichhardt Bowlo?

There’s two in Concord if you’re up for a tiny bit of a drive. Briars is good for the kids, although outside so the rain may hit you. Food is a bit hit and miss, but they do the basics well. There’s also the Croatian Club that just opened and is meant to be very kid friendly.

Hunters Hill Bowls club is a good one too, the food is a bit more upscaled. Hunters Hill Hotel has an indoor play centre.

If the weather is good (or at least not pissing it down) the bowlo is best… good playground and space for kids to run around

Canada Bay Club - big indoor play area
Petersham Bowls Club & Salisbury hotel are both good options

depends on the age of kids and the willingness to allow them screens, but most pubs are pretty good with kids
