Streets of our town - the Sydney thread

Just leave them in the car. Crack the window with a packet of chips and a can of lemonade.

I mean, I can’t see why they can’t be allowed in the Pokies. Slip them a $20 each, and they’ll have hours of fun with all the flashing lights, noises and buttons. a Pink Lemonade each in the sippy cup.

I mean it’s the cheapest childcare ever. When they get a bit bored and become antsy, rub a bit of rum in their gums, and they’ll go down for a nap.

God the 1960s were a good time.

It’s Balmain. Urchins are supposed to run the streets are they not?

Balmain bowlo Gladstone Park

Rookwood Necropolis, my grandfather’s final resting place (He passed 22 years ago today). The first of us to conclude our lives in Sydney. Thinking not the last. đŸȘœ

Used to be my local when I lived in the area. Cheap schooners, long Sunday sessions. Food was crap though.

Always used to go for a wine my my Nan and Pop up there.

Ended up at the Leichhardt Bowlo. Was a pretty good spot. Can’t believe I’d never been before.

The new Metro opens on 4th August!

Unfortunately they’re binning my daily bus route from Bella Vista to North Sydney once it opens. Takes about 5 or 10 minutes longer than the current Metro via Chatswood, but guaranteed to get a seat to myself each way so I prefer it. Boo progress, boo.

That means getting from the middle of the CBD almost straight to Sky Park. Just sayin’

Went to the Croatian Club in Concord over the weekend. The layout is really good, big space, looks nice and would be absolutely perfect to watch a big game of football. They have a huge screen outside. Amazing for kids as well with a decent sized field and a giant slide set. Two things let them down though, the amount of salt on the food and also, no Croatian beers in the place.

How does it compare to say the King Tom club in Edesnor Park?

Anybody here play touch football, or 6 a side?

I need to get out and do something active. Cyclings good, but it’s hard to find somebody to cycle with where it’s not competitive.

What’s the best place to start? Had a look on the touch NSW website, but it’s not very helpful unless you’re looking to start your own side.

I play soccer for abbotsford and always looking for ring-ins. Half our team has long term injuries. Otherwise at this stage, I’d look for indoor comps with the amount of rain we’ve been having

I’ve found that most comps like that will require you to bring a whole team in, rather than try to place individual players.

Depends on the Comp. Canterbury runs a summer comp for 6-aside where they’ll place you into teams if you don’t have one. Even some of the private comps will send an email out to see if anyone has space. Some Turkish guys used to run a really good indoor 6 aside comp in Olympic Park. Not sure if it’s still there

I know the NWSF/GHFA used to direct individual players to our club. Most of the time they ended up in our (former) team .

Football wise, you’d probably be wanting things like the following:

  • Just play- justplay.com.au - used it a fair bit a few years back for futsal but they have a bunch of sports and locations. Was a pretty social level.

  • Also this group on facebook called Friendly Football Social Soccer Sydney that puts together groups to play lots of times and locations

  • Stranger soccer (https://www.strangersoccer.com/) - similar concept to just play but football only. Haven’t used them directly.

What sort of cycling do you do?

Honestly just for fitness.

I find road cycling pretty boring and dangerous in traffic. There are some decent mountain bike tracks around Sydney if you know where to find them. Mtb, in my opinion, adds a dimension to cycling than just cranking out the miles.
