Streets of our town - the Sydney thread

Are you raging on our favelas???

Red Rooster 4 Life!

There’s a McDonald’s literally in the driveway of their facility, but I assume it was built purely as handy USB storage.

It’s probably the same Maccas my TAFE classmates used to attend. They often told me how the manager there was constantly yelling at the staff and how one time my classmates even had to tell him to stop.

Question for the people: where is the best laksa in Sydney?

Not raging on favelas at all. I am sure other favelas have decent food.

Probably the biggest thing I miss about Darwin. Laksa everywhere :disappointed_relieved:

Temasek in Parramatta is up there.
Malay Chinese Takeaway at Circular Quay / Ashfield also good.

Back in the day, The Malaya in North Sydney was my favourite.

They’re no longer there (haven’t been for probably 20 years now), but there is The Malaya in Haymarket and I don’t know if they have anything to do with the old North Syd one.

For $34, you’d hope theirs would be good!

Isn’t The Malaya at King Street Wharf? Been there many times in the 2010s and always enjoyed it. Haven’t been there for a while now, and not sure if it is still there.

I’ll throw my hat in the ring for Temasek in Parra too.

Mathews Food Court at UNSW does an excellent laksa, I pretty much subsisted on that for 7 years of study

Malacca Straits on Broadway for the city

Also agree on Temasek at Parramatta

Anyone been to 20 Chapel St in Marickville? Was looking at it for my anniversary dinner. Otherwise any other suggestions for decent restaurants? We just bought a house so don’t want to go absolutely all out in terms of price.

I had a lovely meal here

Seconded. A great spot for a nicer meal without being super expensive.

I’d also recommend Kindred in Chippendale for excellent Italian, a bit more upmarket but at a very reasonable price.

Kindred was my first thought as well, really great food and the atmosphere is good. The price is upmarket but not outrageous which sounds like the sort of range you’re after.

Thanks! The wife has a few options now to choose from

If you go try the Limoncello.

So ended up going to 20 Chapel St. Highly recommended, the steak was literally melt in your mouth! That and the fact that it was very close to a number of breweries and the wife had Gelato Messina, worth it! The only negative was just the speed of the meal. Sat down at 6:00 and we were done by 7:15. Felt we didn’t really get time to just sit and chat.
