I’ve said it before but Brighton are a fantastic team to watch.

I guess that means that a goalkeeper isn’t classed as a defender.
Martial was running with the ball at his feet and feigned to shoot before Fernandes takes the shot. You can see Ederson prop in readiness for that shot (Martial’s). If Ederson isn’t “defending” in that situation then I’d like to know what IFAB thinks he’s doing instead.

Rightly, if a player in an offside position impacts a goalkeepers ability to make a save eg. standing in front of them when a shot comes in, they are offside. I’m not sure why a similar ruling couldn’t have been made in this instance.

Think you mean Rashford instead of Martial but I agree with everything else.

Liverpool on the other hand. I know a teams performance can depend on a fine edge balancing act but holy shit we look shockingly bad at times. You’d think there is a floor of performance level but apparently not.

Years of negligence coming home to roost. We needed to be strengthening while we were on top.

The last “gap year” was a result of a horrendous string of defensive injuries. This one the midfield has just fallen off a cliff, and yes should’ve been strengthened over time.

I also didn’t think Mane’s occasional wastefulness would be that big a miss, but the midfield is being horribly exposed without him pressing like an absolute madman in front.

I used to understand the offside rule, and the flag went up immediately.

Now i have no idea and the flag goes up about 30 seconds later at, what appears to be, a random time after the player is actually offside.

I watched the mini match & not sure I spotted this part. Can anyone let me know what minute it was so I can see also?

78th ish

Would be bold editing to exclude the equalising goal from the mini match.

Sorry. I read ‘sheparding’ and assumed it was waiting for the ball to run past he byline.

I did see it & also very conflicted.

Thanks @aggerdo for clarifying for me.

I can’t see how anyone can seriously say that Rashford isn’t interfering with the play. Him being there changes Ederson’s decision and prevents Akanji from getting back goalside.

Yeah that’s who I meant.

How the fuck that was not offside is not something I could contemplate explaining.

Is Fergie back?

No, but Howard Webb is……

just saw the goal, what the hell? Clearly interfering with the play and going for the ball.

Well, at least there’ll be one new trophy on display near our cabinet this season.

For the first time in its 150-year history, the Emirates FA Cup trophy will visit Australia

Pretty sure Craig Johnston brought it over back in the day

I’m pretty sure he had it on display in his front window for an evening back in 1986 because he was trying to rile up his Evertonian neighbours.

Regarding the Rashford ‘offside’ I’ve seen a few goals recently where a cross is played in, the defender plays at the ball as there is a player behind them (who happens to be offside), the second ball is won by the attacking team and they score.

The defender is clearly playing the ball as they believe the attacking player to be onside and you could argue that they wouldn’t have tried to defend the ball, if they had known he was offside. In each occasion I’ve seen this recently, the goal has stood and I always thought it should have been called offside.

It happened to United a few weeks ago actually when Varane tried to head clear with an offside player on his shoulder, ball ended up straight with an opposition player who crossed for a tap in. I guess the rule must state it is only offside if the player touches the ball or is in front of the goal keepers vision? (Rashford was behind the ball when struck)
