Yep. He’s made some really questionable career decisions. If he showed some fortitude and stayed at McLaren, he could’ve won the 2008 title. Also bottled the 2010 and 2012 World Championships at Ferrari, when he was in great positions to win and blew them both times, and absolutely spat the dummy when he threw away the 2010 championship by being stuck behind Vitaly Petrov for half of the race
At least Kimi stuck around by being Kimi and not being an annoying cunt who told everyone who’d listen how great he thought he was.
I’d say James Hunt was the one who called a spade a fucking shovel. He would absolutely have David Croft for breakfast every single broadcast if paired with him.
That’s why Murray and James worked as a commentary team. They were yin and yang, obviously hated each other and their commentary was full of passive aggressive tension. Crofty and Nico had a bit of that.
I watched a couple of interviews. There’s something about pushing that he’s not getting help with atm moment and people going with you. Stuff I don’t understand atm.
.It’s kinda like an initiation I guess.
Apart from having the trust in the new guy to push or be pushed without crashing, there is a bit of not wanting to help the new guy and look silly if he beats them.
Looked like he had a few working with him to get to the front but then they abandoned him and be left high and dry and fall back. Xfinity race was a bit the same.
You don’t win on superspeedways without the help.
Rightfully so though. He’s not as angry about the hit, but about the fact that Stroll is blaming literally every single other person apart from himself
Sainz would be absolutely mad to accept a contract from RB at this moment. I reckon he will be better served long-term going to Sauber/Audi. There are no guarantees that Red Bull’s engine is going to be up to scratch any more than Audi’s engine will. And at Audi he would surely be number one. He would never be number one in the Red Bull stable so long as Verstappen is there.
He could push for a one year contract though. Marco is apparently talking about Perez only driving well because he’s on a one year contract, so if Perez stay, Marco wants to only offer him a one year deal. Getting Sainz onboard on a one year contract allows Red Bull more time to look at a new driver pairing and keeps Sainz racing before he eventually goes over to Audi (assuming he wants to go there).
I feel like Sainz has loftier ambitions than to just finish second to his team-mate (or if you literally meant the team RB, then actually going to what is effectively the third or fourth drive in the Red Bull stable). Historically, him and Verstappen never gotten along anyway. And I think it would send the wrong message to Audi if Sainz is serious about joining them. Apparently Audi’s offer is also much better than Red Bull’s.
Understanding that, but if he doesn’t sign with someone now, he’s going to wait an entire year without a single race before Audi join, I can’t see him being that interested in it. Joining Red Bull for a year would give him the opportunity to actually try and beat Verstappen on fairly even footing, would keep him racing and would also give him some really valuable insight into the car everyone is trying to beat.
Pretty sure Audi are already starting to invest heavily in Sauber, so if there’s a seat available there next year, and he has designs of being the #1 driver there, I think the time has come to switch. I know this is F1 we’re talking about, but Audi don’t do things by halves. He could well be onto a good thing.
There’s also no chance in hell Red Bull would risk upsetting Verstappen by potentially having someone that could beat him in equal equipment. Either Sainz would get inferior equipment or they’d stick with Perez.
Think of it as a really really really close slipstream that often ends in a lot of cars meeting walls.
The Toyotas were a perfect example of it going horribly wrong.
Or Skaife. Or Crompton. Or any other prick that happily gets into shouting matches to see who can shout the loudest in the commentary box.
Alonso now moaning that he won’t take part in the Miami sprint because of the penalty last week. What an absolute manchild. I hope he follows through. Let Drugovich have his seat.
