So I shouldn’t start on side drafting which actually slows down the other car?

Maybe next month!

That’s nuts.

Everybody is assuming Newey will move to another team. After twelve months gardening leave, the guy will be 67. He still designs on a drafting board for gods sakes. I’d have to assume retirement is his main motivation.

Good point. He’d also be pretty happy to retire on top. I don’t think moving to Aston Martin would necessarily give him that opportunity. He’s been in F1 for at least 36 years, as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s had enough.

Apparently one of the sticking points was Newey was being moved to the Red Bull supercar project and away from F1

Wasn’t he always talking about doing something away from F1 completely, such as designing an Americas Cup super-maxi or similar?

(Or has he already been and done that?)

Except he’s designing a car for the whinging Spaniard. Stroll is just an accident. (pun intended)

Looks like he helped on a team that lost in the qualifiers for the 2017 America’s Cup.

Off to Toowoomba tomorrow to crew for a V8 Dirt Modified.
Not sure how much help I’ll provide apart from filling up the indicator fluid and making sure the wiper blades are working but it should be fun.

Hulkenburg signs for Sauber. If im not wrong thats the only spot they had available for next year. He becomes the first official Audi driver

Both Sauber drivers finish their current deals this year. It still gives them a chance to get Sainz.

SVG finished 18/38 today. At Dover which is a short 1 mile track which gives a different expereince to last week’s Talladega Super Speedway.

Out boy was 6th at the Stage 2 restart for reasons beyond my ken atm but dropped like a stone.

One thing I’ve picked up which may be of interest, if the race finishes under caution, they go to a two lap overtime shoot out.

This could be something worth considering in other competitions.

This turned out to be an immense amount of fun.
Sure I left home at 7am yesterday and didn’t get home until 3.30am this morning but it was thoroughly enjoyable.
It’s a completely different experience and gave me a much greater appreciation of what goes into getting a car to the track. It really was a behind the scenes look.

Here I was thinking that there’d be a few proper mechanics tinkering with the car and I was there to do the shit jobs. It turned out that it was just a crew of 2, my mate who asked me to help and myself. There was also a driver/car owner from another category who would pop in and offer some technical advice with Josh (the driver/car owner) and make a couple of changes but that was it. There was a grand total of 2 race meetings experience with that car and that belonged to Josh and my mate (who isn’t a mechanic).

Now obviously I wasn’t the one changing the springs, adjusting the shock pressures, changing the diff ratios, scoring the tires or putting the methanol in the car but watching and helping with the process has given me a much greater understanding of how and why you make the changes and the effect on the car you’re trying to achieve.

We managed to finish 5th in the feature after starting 12th. 3 of the guys that finished ahead of us have won multiple Australian titles and have pit crews who actually know what they’re doing.

Scotty Mac killed it today. Top 12 within 10 seconds.

Barber Motorsports Park is a sweet track.

That was a crazy drive. Love to see pure speed win beat strategy.
