That’s not a bad move.
While they’ll never be a top team again they’re definitely on the way back up. They’re going to be more competitive than Audi will be in the immediate future. He and Alex Albon are a decent line up as well and should work well together developing the new car.
I think next season will be the first time since 2016 that they haven’t had a pay driver on the books. It’s definitely a sign the finances of the team are in much better shape.
Some pretty childish road rage in FP3 of all times. Leclerc is 100% getting a penalty for running into Norris. Stroll should probably get one, as well.
Both Norris and Hamilton were getting out of the way, it was fucking weird. Leclerc had to veer off the line to get to Norris, and Stroll tried to take Hamilton into the gravel.
They probably need to tweak the DRS zone a little bit in Barcelona next year. A bit too easy to pass on the main straight. It helps now the cars have so much downforce that the last two corners are close to flat, even in race trim. A decade or two ago, the last corner was fifth gear instead of seventh, and the dirty air killed any chance to pass.
Norris has been one of the most consistently good drivers of the last year or two. He now needs to step up to being a great driver to beat Verstappen, and he’s going to learn a lot this year from these battles.
With McLaren doing pretty decent and, by the looks of it, Mercedes having done some positive upgrades, Perez’ poor showings could potentially cost RB the Constructors Championship. Only negative is that Ferrari isn’t performing well. Would love to see RB lose Constructors
Maybe I need to start posting what the championships would look like on my alternate standings, where Red Bull are effectively excluded from every race as a result of tactically breaking the cost cap a few years back, with such a ban only being lifted for 2026 if they don’t do the same thing for the new regs. Any Red Bull fastest laps are also given to the next fastest lap (if they finish in the top 10).
It only took them two and a bit decades to come up with this solution? I should’ve pursued a career in track safety. I thought something very similar would work around 2002 when tarmac run-offs started to become a thing.
I guess the argument is going to be what happens if a car is forced to go wide for safety to avoid collisions. Is that going to cause potential further safety or damage issues?
Dipping into or going across a gravel strip won’t have the same potential to instantly ruin a race as a gravel trap, so to avoid a collision you’d definitely do it.
But it will ruin a lap, so whether in qualifying or the race you won’t do it unless you absolutely have to.
Steve Richards won Bathurst 4 times. He’s obviously good enough. But did he get the chance because his dad is Jim Richards.
Did Steve Johnson get there on merit or because of his dad? Jack Perkins?
Lance Stroll out qualified everyone’s favourite over the hill Spanish former 2 time World Champion Alonso Fernando as recently as … checks notes … a few hours ago.
He may have got the seat because his dad is loaded and ended up buying a team … but so what? It’s F1 that limits team numbers. Not Lance Stroll. It’s F1 that keeps the sport stupid expensive. Not Lance Stroll.
Lance Stroll is actually a kinda decent driver in a kinda decent team. He’s not that Russian kiddie who couldn’t complete a lap a few years ago.
Oh, and if Max isn’t the son of Jos, how far does he go?
You should check out the nepotism in the NBA. The Bronny James is merely visible.
