Police alleged Wighton and Mitchell, who will become teammates at South Sydney next year, fought each other outside the venue. However, Power claimed he had a âlong-term memory issueâ after his version of events was challenged by Wightonâs lawyer, Steve Boland.
Boland said the police had attempted to âframeâ his client, labelling the case as an âold-school stitch-upâ.
âWhat I saw appears to have not happened and my memory has failed me,â Power said, adding that he had not intentionally misled the court.
Later, when Power addressed Wighton, he said: âSorry, Jack, if thatâs what happened, mate ⊠Iâm sorry.â
The apology did nothing to placate Boland, who said Power had invented evidence rather than forgot what had happened.
âYouâre not mates, are you ⊠how inappropriate,â Boland told the court.
The bombshell revelations came after Boland used CCTV footage to put together a timeline of events that contradicted Powerâs version. Boland labelled Powerâs testimony as âa total and utter fantasy you dreamt up to justify everything that happensâ.
But today, those charges were dismissed.
The players, who are cousins, embraced each other when Magistrate Jane Campbell dismissed the case in the ACT Magistrates Court.
She also ordered ACT Policing to pay both playerâs legal costs.
