The Poultry War - Sydney's Chicken thread

I don’t mind getting their wraps from the Crows Nest store. Wouldn’t bother with the chicken on its own though. I guess that’s indicative of the quality drop though.

A good kebab is hard to get north of the Red Rooster line, so I think even the rating of their wraps is skewed.

There’s a KFC opening up in Newtown, right on King St. Seems wrong.

Yeah I routinely travel great distances for a good felafel.

This is a reply to a very old post (post #6 in this thread). I ate at Kingswood Chicken Man a few months back and I’m not impressed with them these days. It used to be better than that, and I just thought it was decent in its heyday.

I drunkly had ordered the Broasters Chicken at Newtown around 3am. Pleasantly surprised but probably not a place to try sober.

The red rooster line is actually legit

In the Gong we’ve got an EJ (drive through in Albion Park Rail, near the airport) but also an El Tarzah. Significantly better quality, traditional toum-style garlic sauce instead of aoili for one, but without the prices of the proper Lebanese restaurants. Is this only local or a franchise from Sydney?

Google would suggest that its a one-off local.

Speaking of the Gong, the Burek House near Macedonia Park in Berkley is all kinds of awesome. There’s not enough burek north of the Red Rooster line either.

Has anybody actually eaten Broasters sober?

Every time I see a place that does it, it looks so dodgy that it’s the sort of questionable drcision you would make after drinking a questionable amount of tequila.

There is one at Epping I have walked past a few times, never tried it though. I didn’t realise it was part of a chain. I might give it a crack next time I come home from town after a few beers

There used to be a Super Nash Brothers in Auburn. That was some amazing chicken. I sometimes to Bells Chicken in Melbourne, they recently changed the recipe of their Mac and Cheese, so disappointing now.

I’ve had a spin at a few Broaster places. I usually feel like the size of the portion is very solid and am quite full afterwards.

Also it seems like the individual stores appear to have (or just do it anyway) a bit of license with what they include on their menu, I’ve seen quite a few different sides and etc being sold in different places.

Appears to be our version of Morleys in the UK.

Agreed SNB is good. Been to both Willoughby and Zetland.

I find SNB a bit overrated. Usually cooked really well but I’m not a massive fan of the really sugary spice mixture.

I was in Kogarah yesterday and skipped Broasters for El Jannah. That’s how dodgy it looked. Mind you the chicken wrap at El Jannah ended up being quite tasty.

Cabramatta still has a Red Lea chicken shop!

Weirdly enough, it has only recently “re-become” a Red Lea.

It was a Red Lea chicken years ago but then whatever happened and they just dropped the Red Lea part and the shop name was just “_______chicken” for the longest time.

I couldn’t believe that there would be a queue at the front of a Red Lea. Is it some sort of insta-famous place?
