That is fucking awesome!
That is fucking awesome!
My new ambition is to be struck by a hurled lamington in a goal celebration.
The new stadium is world class, and stuff of dreams for me.
Our most recent home game, I took the family. We jumped on a train, got off at Wynyard, then straight onto the light rail to the stadium.
Came back from 1-0 down against the league leaders to win 2-1. Exited having witnessed our first competitive win. Light rail back to Central and on the train home. The evening I had dreamed of since moving to Kogarah/Leichhardt.
Stadium is modern, with nice viewing angles, the seats are in the colours of our club. I don’t buy food or drinks at games so can’t comment there, I can’t think of too many improvements to be made. Plenty of world famous clubs play in much worse digs. 10/10 for me.
I was chatting to a lady at work that I hardly know. I mentioned the new stadium and got into a discussion about whether the new parramatta stadium or the new SFS is better. For me, it’s the new SFS. I was impressed by the Parra stadium when I first went, but it feels so basic and budget, and while the rake is really good, one whole side of the stadium is basically corporate facilitates, so it takes away from the atmosphere a lot.
To me, the new SFS is miles better. It looks amazing, the rake is vastly improved from the old stadium, it has an intimate feel, and it just feels classes above the Parra stadium. Also, and perhaps most importantly, it still feels like you’re in the same spiritual home, not just with the positioning and approach, but some nods to the original architecture when you’re inside. With Para you’d have no idea that you were in the same place.
Anyway, she hasn’t been to the new stadium, so I basically told her that until she has, she’s unable to voice an opinion on which one is better
So I don’t mind Parra stadium as a week-in week-out playing field. It doesn’t have the bells and whistles, but it gets the job done. It shows that it’s role is to be the home of a sports team. SFS is more about glitz and glamour. Does it need sushi and krispy kreme? No, but it does feel like you’re there for more of an event.
Don’t get me wrong, I think we need more Parra style stadiums - cheaper to build and a good size. But as you allude to, the SFS just feels more special, it’s part of the experience of the event that you’re attending.
I have to admit, I hadn’t realised the costs were $828m v $300m. I prefer our stadium but bang for buck, Parramatta is a great stadium.
I really wish they could do a smaller (20-25k) Parramatta style stadium at Campbelltown. I really don’t think the league can afford Macarthur to fail in the long run and the current premises are terrible.
The only issue, is the event gets spoilt when you get the inevitable 5000 to a game
Think WSS ended up being $360m, prob $400+m like for like with inflation.
But agree with the concept - it’s much cheaper on a $/seat basis. And it occurs with a step-change as you go to larger stadiums.
There is a lot more concrete, steel and cost in the higher concourses and escalators and elevators which are the primary differences between the two stadiums. It’s stairs all the way down to ground if you are in the upper tier at WSS to get anything.
I mean one of these stadiums is in Parramatta and automatically worse, despite budgets.

We’re lucky to have such wonderful retail options.
Well when you put it like that. Better just to get a feed in a China town pub on the way in. Fuck Hemmes
Might not be the place to post this, but this bloke is a legend, he was even given a socceroos shirt during the WC for educating people on his tick tock how the socceroos got to where they’re. Looks like he’s an fc supporter… also
He was on you can’t ask that about being in prison.
He seemed like he had become pretty awesome since getting out.
The club has sent out a membership survey about the experience at the new Allianz. It’s a pretty comprehensive survey, including asking for thoughts on everything from the quality of match day food to the new drumming. It was a good opportunity to complain about none of the food and drink outlets being open.
I normally don’t do surveys, but the food thing pisses me off so much I made an exception this time.
Same, as well as shitting on the drums and orchestra shit
I’ll be complaining that Balter XPA seems to have disappeared from the taps.
