The travelling circus: stadia discussion

All the food options were available I assume?

Was with a mate in SFS Members on L2 and it was a shitshow up there. 20-deep at the main bar and at least two of the end bars were closed all evening.
Up on level 4 was even worse with no food outlets open and only a handful of servers at the single open bar.

Ran into someone at half time who’d gone downstairs into the public concourse and got chicken and beers pretty quickly, so assume most was open downstairs.

So sometimes the public get the better service.

Also another difference is that the Tahs have continued their post game Tah Bar at the Northern end, which is open for an hour post game with DJs at that end.

The members looked chockers on TV. It’s a shame they are morons and won’t come to SFC games…

Though perhaps with that terrible level of service merivale will actually cop some flak over their handling of food and bev?

Can’t be upsetting the poor members.

That’s really surprising. Not sure if it’s Hemmes’ fault but I’m just gonna say it is. What a cockhead.

Even if it’s not his fault, he’s still a cockhead.

Surely suffering the same issues as other hospo venues - staffing.

Who wants to do a 3 hour shift when you can do 8 elsewhere?

Make the stadium a destination before and after matches.

This isn’t a suggestion box hilly!!

Surely they can get staff from their other Sydney venues to do a split shift. 3 hours at the footy to 7/9, then another 5 hours at some shithole til 12/2.

They’d have to pay an extra hour for them to get into the city for the other bar, but they’d still make money.

I HAVE THE ANSWERS TO EVERYTHING!

I dunno, some of them are massive wankers. Reckon they’d turn their nose up at the footy gigs

Update. Had a black coffee & a chocolate brownie on the weekend. Asked if they could get cannoli and the barista was one of those hooray for everything bubbly types and said she’ll pass my request up the line. Getting closer.

Looking forward to the first big, big crowd in the new stadium

Very promising. I took a look at sales over the past few days out of curiosity and none of the top tiers are open and some of the bays they opened up for public sale last derby aren’t open yet either. Cove Heights is selling slowly ,away allocation is selling pretty well.

All in all too early to say anything definitive but expect sales to pick up a lot the week of the game. If we get anything above 30k I will be happy, but let’s see how it’s tracking closer to kick off.

Also on a separate note but since we’re in the stadium thread, anyone else thinking them scrapping the LED curtain was probably a decent idea in the end?

The stadium is so steep I legitimately do not even notice the top tier much, you almost have to crane your neck up to see it. And because the bottom and middle tiers go all the way around if they are reasonably full it gives the sense of a full stadium anyway.

Hard to say how good it would have been without experiencing it though, but in the end our crowds have been good enough that it hasn’t bothered me. If we were getting 8-10k though it would have helped, but to me 15k crowds are good enough for me to not really be bothered by empty top tiers. I think the seat design also helps as it makes the top tiers feel less empty (when I do see them).

Yeah we don’t need it, though remember how it being included was absolutely key to us signing off on the displacement? First of oh so many contractual negotiations where DT got taken to the cleaners.

im still not convinced. Would have been interesting to see the difference as you’d think the sound would reverberate throughout the stadium more.

If it went to the roof you’d lose the booming echo effect.

The cove are really quite loud in a 1/4 full stadium due to the roof.

I’d sooner they spent a few billion on improving local sports grounds. The SCG Trust and it’s members should be paying to redevelop the SCG.
