An article in The Athletic UK when 3 of them visited Allianz during the SFC - WU match about The Cove mainly.
Since we don’t have a visiting peoples thread i’ll put it here, stadium experience and all that.
I have copied the article to a notepad file for your pleasure if you don’t have an account with them as pics.
Click on them to zoom in!!!
Aw, shucks
Thanks for sharing.
I actually know the Aussie Ipswich fan mentioned in the article. Definitely knows his Ipswich Town!
Always good to hear the impressions (good and bad) of visitors. I feel stuff like this speaks more to how to build and grow the fanbase than anything the APL does
It’s nice to see people get it. Just the fact that football is so much of a game of emotions and being in the stands for a mediocre game is way better than sitting at home watching a great one. It’s just a mentality that the Eurosnobs will truly never get.
Shame they rubbished the performance of the league so much.
I think the Poms are wired that way, to incessantly complain. I’m was at a Medillin National v Newel Old Boys match.
I rallied a crew in the hostel, we bought knock off jerserys and we stood to the side of the home end. The soap dodger with us complained and moaned for 60 odd minutes about how shit the football quality was. Newell Old Boys scored the opening goal mid second half and the pommie lad cheered the goal as some sort of sarcastic protest. The bloke behind him slapped him across the chops and kicked him 6 rows down the aisle.
I was perplexed as to why he put his complaining ahead of his own safety.
It’s incredibly easy to watch the A-League over here if you’re a footy fan (you’re likely to have TNT Sport or a stick). The 7:45 KO on saturday night is on at 8:45am saturday morning, great when you wake up and there is no live sport on other than big bash maybe and fuck all else on telly.
I’d argue it’s more visible than the A-League back in Oz as you can find it when scrolling through sky etc and with so many people using football apps and gambling apps, it’s easy to see when it’s on.
I was shocked when some Year 6 boys I was teaching a few years back (circa 2016) knew of Sydney FC. “Oh yeah, that’s the league that’s on early in the morning”
Very easy to access and I’d say, based on what I’ve observed, it’s viewed fairly well over here.
General stadium talk here… not sure if any of you like to indulge in a little bit of GeoGuessr when procrastinating on a Friday.
This map set is European Football Stadiums. A really nice ride between the generic modern bowls in the suburbs, Eastern European crumbling terraces and some pretty suburban kinda places…
This popped up on my Facebook feed. Not sure if 100% legit but tempted to impulse buy, for the price.
EDIT: I’ve ordered the SFS and the SCG. I’ll update this thread with pics if it arrives.
does it have LED curtains and cup holders?
How many toilets?
Mine arrived yesterday. I actually ended up getting them free since they took so long PayPal refunded my money. Seems they were just sitting at they initial post office for ages, so no fault of the sender.
What is this, a stadium for ants!?
Does it come with shutters to put over the food vendor stands?
The SCG, with all its various unconnected stands, had lots of bits and pieces and was a bit dicky, but I salvaged something. Now, how long before the cardboard joins my paper hoard…
Missing a light tower at the SCG.
Another one to the left of the larger scoreboard.
It had fallen into the SFS!
Good eye
