The travelling circus: stadia discussion

Surely it’s just a precusor

It’s AI generated shite with no identifiers, post YOUR opinion, not the written equivalent of grey goo.

I’m old school; i prefer my walls of texts written by deranged lunatics in some sort of psychosis, not AI.

26/27 Reconnection season.

I didn’t realise until I saw an old photo of Leichhardt Oval that there used to be another old stand next to the heritage one at the southern end which was narrower but a bit taller? Anyone recall or have any better images of it? From google earth looks like it got torn down in about 2007ish, but there are Tigers NRL videos on YouTube from 2000s showing the grandstand still in place but already roped off and out of action then in a vid from 2007 it was gone.

1990 in its prime:

2001 roped off:

The club is apparently likely to seek compensation:

The whole article is worth a read for sure but this gives an extra indication of the timing:

Even in the best-case scenario of a six-week lockout, the timing of the resurfacing could sting the Sky Blues. The club does not expect the work to begin until after the Wallabies host Argentina on September 13, nor for a new surface to be relaid until after concerts by Kendrick Lamar and Dom Dolla in December. There is also an international break in November which means that, if there happens to be a small window between in which they can return to Allianz, their opportunities to do so might be limited.

It’s honestly amazing that they don’t do it during NRL season, considering we’re the biggest user of the pitch out of all the codes.

Good, hope we takes those fuckers for millions. They have always treated us like second class citizens

If we just sue the trust every year, we’ll make a profit and won’t need to sell our best players.

Club gets $s fans get f@#%d.

Maybe they could lay down a turf pitch in the new carpark and we could play there.

That said turf is hard.
Wrexham has had to rip up their 1yo pitch after it failed to bed properly, and reinstall drainage and heating

Somewhat differently to ours it’s fully seeded, and then stitched with plastic later, whereas we seem to use an offsite surface.

But of course no concerts no league, no union

Wollongong Stadium got a fully roofed steep western stand seating 6000 in the 2012 for $28m (which is about $38m adjusted for inflation).

Build us one of those on the western side, another half-sized one on the Eastern side, and a smaller stand with low roof behinid the northern goals for the Cove to thump out some noise with the gaps filled in by a nice grass hill. Then simply leave away fans standing on a muddy potholed glorified carpark at the southeast corner next to the main road. Kind of like a reversed modern Edensor Park not in a suburban shithole. Done for under $80m.

That’s based on 2013 prices. These days that $80m is over $100m already (unless you think we can do $80m after inflation, which is not going to happen). Also, building in Sydney means higher labour costs, higher demand for construction services, and of course higher land prices. So I could easily imagine costs blowing over $150m even for that small stadium. I personally think you’d still be needing $200m for it. It is insane.

Remember that Penrith Stadium is being re-developed for $309m.

I can assure you it doesn’t, our buildings are getting built by contractors from Western Sydney. And the price was purely for the construction side of things as land didn’t change hands.

So would you say that we could do a stadium as suggested by Cheltenham for $80m-$100m? Or much higher?

Construction costs for something of the size and quality of WIN western grandstand plus some smaller sides, yes. Keep in mind it has quite shit hospitality for the punters and limited fancy stuff compared to Allianz. No replay screens.

I’m not saying that price tag includes buying Wentworth or ES Marks.

Surely the SFCU members can organise a working bee. I was a builders labourer for about a year after I left school. I can mix a bit of cement, pretty handy with a shovel and wheelbarrow. I’ll give up my Saturdays for a slab of beer.
