The TV Show Thread

Looks soo cringe, in a bad way.

I didnā€™t even come close to laughing once, and I assume they put their best stuff in the trailer, terrible

I just assumed they deliberately left that part out of Ep 7 because they were going to revisit it later.

I think I mentioned it earlier that it was going to be awful when I saw an ad on FB or somewhere for it.

I donā€™t know if I want to watch the trailer.

Yes, you do. One part of the trailer just begs for a Spaceballs quote to be slotted straight in there.

Iā€™ve never watched any of The Office, uk or us. I know how popular they are, i know the concept, seen odd bits and pieces here and there.

I watched the Oz trailer just then.

What my question is, do any of these shows replicate what itā€™s like to work in an office environment?

Also, with the Aussie one, are there really people like the boss character running offices in such an 80ā€™s Australian feel?

Or are they all just a highly stereotyped characters in all the shows each to their own countries?

Would i miss many many jokes if i watched any of them if i donā€™t have years of working in office environments?

Fuck no. Not even remotely close to reality.

So itā€™s a piss take, similar to IT Crowd.

If i was to watch, i should start with the uk one?

Yes and definitely, itā€™s genuniely hilarious in parts, and also doesnā€™t wear out its welcome, but it is cringe comedy and can be hard to take a lot of

The US one is just people being fucking morons orbiting the worlds most bland office romance, it has far fewer highlights and is 100% aimed at bland american tastes. Some of the warehouse shit is quite funny but mostly itā€™s sniggers or smiles over big laughs. And its about 5 seasons too fucking long.

Iā€™m a long time watcher of Rickyā€™s stuff with Karl, Idiot abroad. Even if i donā€™t like or agree with his personal ideas. Still entertaining. Thatā€™s where the cringe comes in i guess.

Your description of the US one is basically and exactly how i imagined it to be. Iā€™ll skip that, and i think iā€™ll skip the Oz version too.

With IT Crowd, even though i donā€™t work in the environment, iā€™ve had every iteration of a ā€˜pcā€™ since my father got me a ZX Spectrum. CVic-20,C64,Amiga 500, 1200, and so on and so on.

So that show i can watch over and over again.

The US one is still good, just skip the first and last two seasons. That and view it as a completely different show

Iā€™d say it has themes and ā€œoffice archetypesā€ that you see in offices.

The IT crowd is also part parody of how non-IT workers used to see IT types. Just weirdo nerds with no clue about the world outside the tech sphere.

Already covered a while back but what ground is an Aus Office going to cover that hasnā€™t already been nailed a million times better by Utopia?

They mainly cover stuff like a producer needing to come up with an idea and having no shred of independent or original thought, just to make a quick buck. Continuing the current trend of just remaking shit

I used to work with a bloke who was the spitting depiction of Creed from the US Office. Basically this senile old bloke who used to just creep on people. He was an old school friend of the original owner, but fuck me he was a weird bloke. Used to perve on a couple of the attractive early-twenty-something girls in the office.

Have also worked with people who have the same brown-nosing traits as Dwight. Not the sameā€¦eccentricities as him, but always doing whatever it takes to please the manager - even going as far as referring to themselves as a team leader, and being bullied mercilessly for it.

I admit, Iā€™ve only see the Us Office, but I do get a good chuckle out of the antics. Nothing will beat the Fire Drill episode.

Steve Carrell is good value, but his childish immaturities do get a bit much in all his roles. In Anchorman he was just cringe. And most episodes of The Office heā€™s incredibly cringeworthy.

Want to watch Breaking Bad but differently?

Try the Colombian remake!

Main issue with IT Crowd is the imbedded laughs. Canā€™t watch anything that depends on telling me when they want me to laugh
