The TV Show Thread

Just watched the episode. Thought, in terms of realism, they’ve finally done a bit better and enjoyed it more than the Battle of Winterfell. It’s a it crap with how obvious the story line is going and i’m hoping that there is going to be something completely out of left field in the last episode.

The steady decline of Daenerys into insanity, I thought, would have been more effective, if it had started towards the end of last season. Imagine having to fight with her to defeat the Night King, knowing that she would kill you at the drop of a pin

My ultimate ending would be Jon and Daenerys kill each other and then either the 7 kingdoms fall apart OR the throne is taken over by a choice between Sansa, Arya, Tyrion or ultimately Gendry, they all have a legitimate claim for the throne, especially after Daenerys legitimized Gendry by creating him a Lord, even though he was born a bastard.

The true ending though, i’m assuming, will be Arya, Jon or ultimately Tyrion, kill Daenerys. Jon becomes king, they all live happily every after. The end

It’s disappointing that the show has just ended so poorly. The writers really have taken their audience for granted and dumbed it down. I don’t think I’ve seen many glowing reviews of the final season at all. They taken a collective shit on the intelligence of their audiences and gone for a walk

This ending and Dany’s turn into madness has been inevitable and people shouldn’t be upset with it. I agree with Paulska though in that the writing has ruined the plot line and George RR’s endgame. Strong fan theories that this would also happen spoiled it somewhat as well.

Perhaps six episodes were just not long enough.

I have no problem with the last episode. Martin is a strong anti-war believer and this episode probably mirrors some of the horrors going on in the world at the moment. But as many have said, the descent into madness was a bit too steep.

Who knows what will happen next week? Tyrion’s time seems to be up and I think Jon will kill Dany. I don’t think Jon will want the throne but I can’t see who else it will be. Maybe Martin and the writers will really labour their message and have everyone agree on an election from the people, or more realistically a joint council of rulers like Sansa, Gendry, Robyn Arryn and Dorne.

GoT

I can see them reverting to having rulers over each of the original Seven Kingdoms, particularly with Kings Landing turned to rubble.

As to the ending itself, GRRM has all but said it’s been rushed, and not even close to how his story will play out (if we ever see it).

In non-GoT shows, the last episode of Veep was maybe the best they ever made. Somehow it feels like most of them got the endings they deserved

though that ending for Gary is darker than anything GoT could deliver.

While I have been annoyed by some of the character arcs (Jamie in particular) the final series just feels so rushed. What was the driving force behind this being the last series? Could series 8 not have built toward the final battle with the night king - and Dany could have started to get paranoid and descend into madness. Then series 9 is the march to Kings Landing and the conclusion to the game of thrones.

this has just felt too rushed

Agree with marinermick. I will also add the following:

Essos and Westeros are two completely different beasts. Dany failed to understand this. As her most trusted advisors that she met in Essos have been picked off one by one, the ability to rein Dany’s darkest impulses has slowly evaporated. Losing Jorah and Missandei in particular tipped her over the edge. Anyone online complaining about Dany’s “turn” hasn’t been paying attention.

Interestingly enough, there’s been a backlash from feminist circles about the turning of Dany. They had long appreciated that the show had strong female characters, and the rise of Dany, with all the good that she had done was a big part of that. Now that she’s gone and wipe out thousands of innocent people, they’re pissed off that she’s been made out to be evil now. It’s game of thrones people, nothing is sacred.

What really annoys me about the feminist backlash is the fact that it completely ignores Sansa, Arya and Brienne

On another note, the actress playing Cersei was reportedly paid $1,000,000 per episode to stand there and drink wine in a window

I think that is unfair to Lena Hedley. She has had plenty of airtime in other episodes and her acting in this one was outstanding.

She shit all over Harrington and Clarke in the acting stakes.

The Lannisters were comfortably the best cast in the series.

Tyrion’s fake English accent aside.

Generally the older actors are a safer bet. Not too many key actors over 35 did anything less than a top job - particularly all the Lannisters, the horrid old codgers like Craster, Walder Frey and Balon Greyjoy, and those side characters such as Davos, Varys and Jorah. OK, maybe Littlefinger suffered the wandering accent disease but still played it well.

With the younger ones, it’s much patchier. I thought the Stark girls pretty much nailed it, Dany and Jon at the other end remain unconvincing.

Fun fact: Jorah always reminded my wife and I of Super Dave, so we always just referred to him as Carney (and hence I’d always forget his name).

This is an interesting take on the GoT situation.

Oh, and do I really need to say spoiler warning?

I disagree on Sophie Turner. Shithouse actress

I just can’t over the fact that she’d never heard of a BJ until she read it in the script

Wouldn’t she have been about 13 or 14 when they first started shooting the pilot at least? Assuming she didn’t participate in the privately-screened pilot in 2009 that tanked so badly they decided to go back to the drawing board, in which case she’d have been even younger if she did.

I’m not looking at Sophie Turner for her acting skills
 #dirtyoldman

Well, that’s over.

Now the worst bit. Cancelling the Drama pack

Thank fuck its all over
