The weather thread: smalltalk edition

Shit’s completely fucked, and only going to get worse/crazier for decades to come, even if we stop making it worse. The crazy thing is that we’re not even doing the easy things we can do to stop making it worse!

Paying a lot of money right now to insulate the fuck out of my house. Hoping to get from 1 to 5.5 EER before summer.
Because its going to continue to suck either with an El Nino this year or soon enough. Huge swathes of people are going to either swelter or send themselves broke on AC bills in our poorly built paper thin houses.

Having weekend football and training as my only set of data points I would say that this Winter has been dry AF and we are due for a howler of a fire season. Went for a bush walk recently and everything seems over grown and ready to blow.

Coupled with the fact that El Nino is either on its way or already here, I’m inclined to agree.

Yep. Lot of dry ass leaves and branches out there just waiting to ignite.

Don’t think the winter has been necessarily more dry than usual? It doesn’t help that we came off of a ridiculously wet summer though.

Definitely the driest it’s been in a long time.

And especially stark compared to last year’s rainathon

Having an awful summer here in London after a ridiculously hot one last year. I see most days have been colder than Sydney the last 10 days, plus quite a bit of rain the last few days, much heavier than normal. Was on a bus this morning and so many roads are half flooded.

This was July’s weather

Compared to last year

August is looking shit too, only one day of 25 degrees forecast, everything else between 18-23. last year we had 14 days over 25 degrees.

Meanwhile southern Europe still absolutely scorching.

June was good tbf.

In-laws live in Rome and are struggling. Seem to have avoided the extreme heat here but hopefully we get a few 25 degree days.

Cannot wait to soak up some 30 degree euro days.

If it makes you feel better we’ve had an actual winter here in Perth.
It’s been stormy and cold most days for ages.

I’ve had to have the trampoline tied down for about two months straight.

Jealous. My kinda weather.

I thought about putting on tracksuit pants one night here in Darwin

Typical British outlook… An optimist might say that they were half drained.

The Chinese government has been accused of deliberately flooding the northern city of Zhuozhou and other areas to save Beijing’s prized high-tech sector from record flooding in the past week.
The floods impacting an area that is home to 110 million people have trapped residents for days as authorities open flood zones in the country to protect urban areas near the capital
Two years worth of rain fell in less than a week killing more than 30 people in northern China and forcing a million people to leave their homes. The floods have threatened food crops and fuelled growing public anger towards the government.

Greater good, and all that………

I cant believe the evil CCP would do this.

I wonder why the evil West would do this!

Given the way our Governments have handled our own flood crises over the last 12-18 months we should be the last ones criticising another countries handling of a disaster.
