I doubt they’d be able to pitch in anything substantial. Certainly not in comparison to NRL and AFL. Both of those organisations would have far bigger lumps of cash to make a similar influence.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the AFL make some sort of bid even if it’s only for the AFL Footy channel.
I could see the NRL doing something similar for FOX League.
I think the only hope for the rest of the sports is to form a consortium to buy the rest of the FOX Sports channels. If the FA joins with Basketball Australia, Netball Australia, Cricket Australia and Motorsport Australia they could all share production facilities and control the content on their specific channel.
Obviously that won’t happen though because politics and self interest and all of that.
If only they had a big bucket of cash from a private equity firm… Oh shit…Keepup you say?

Dude their revenues from the foxtel group (including binge and Kayo) are $1.9 billion dollars.
They made $310m in profit from the foxtel group, making it worth at least $2.5 billion, there’s no way FA & APL can raise that kind of cash.

It’s not getting sold cheaply with the strategy of the new buyer to reduce prices.
I suspect News is just seeing lower growth and increased fragmentation.
Possibly hoping someone like Amazon ponies up big money to soak up the TV rights.
Also query whether Foxtel have any tag rights (ie. Force Telstra to sell their 35% stake along with News) or if Telstra have match rights (ability to match an offer and buy out News)
Wow, had no idea Foxtel still had that many customers… I guess there’s still a big chunk of Aussie households that just have lots of money and are happy to pay premium dollars for dwindling service, as long as they have NRL/AFL
To be fair, he did say part-own. Then again, even a 10% share could be worth $250m-$300m and that is money the game doesn’t have in this country. We’d likely have to pander to foreign interests to get that kind of money and I’m not sure I’d want the sport here to go down that road.
Don’t forget old people who have just about grasped the concept of how to operate the Foxtel remote but don’t quite understand how streaming works.

The TV rights deal signed last season was between them and BeIN. Not sure how they split up how they’d show the games.

The chief executive of majority News Corp-owned Foxtel Group has apologised after an image of him performing an offensive Nazi salute was published on Sunday night.
Patrick Delany said it was taken around a decade ago on the set of Fox Sports’ A-League coverage. Delany was chief executive of Fox Sports at the time.
“Since becoming aware of this photo, I have been searching my mind for a circumstance, from over a decade ago, where a photo capturing me in this pose could ever be possible. The picture is completely inconsistent with my values and beliefs, and family connections.”
said he believes he was demonstrating a likeness between the ‘Sieg Heil’ salute and a hand action made by Western Sydney Wanderers fans during a popular chant.
If only he had some kind of connection where he could get someone to dig into the foxsports archive to verify the context…
The picture is closer to the same action performed by a former Matchday Saturday panelist in the EPL than what the wanderers do (well until recently that is, but definitely not when the photo was taken)

A great example of what is wrong with modern media. Back in the day, you’d have had experienced editors and journalists join the dots before a story was published, just like hilly and I did.
As such Delaney doesn’t get the opportunity to punch down on the RBB and wanderers unchecked. Instead they regurgitate his nonsense statement unchecked and by the time the truth comes out the news cycle has already moved on.
