UEFA Champions League Thread

Always a telling sign when authorities change their story in the immediate aftermath that they are mostly making things up and trying to cover themselves.

Yes, there has been plenty coming out about the mess that police and stadium made of the matter. I’ll delete that post.

…

Dalgish brother had the same problems.

Lots of video footage of the people jumping the fence and speaking Arabic. Not saying that no Liverpool fans didn’t try this, but it seems there were a bunch of French youths doing this. Probably the same groups of youths who rolled both Real and Liverpool fans after the match.

UFC Figther Paddy Pimblett was there and was tweeting about how intimidating it was leaving the stadium with people getting rolled by groups of knife wielding locals.

For a UFC fighter to openly say he had to say he was scared proves it was a fucking horrible place to be

Thierry Henry warned all, emphasising the final was not in Paris but in Saint-Denis and that you’d see the difference.

FWIW I reckon the Courtois love-in was overblown. Cracking save onto the post from Mane, but otherwise most of his work was pretty regulation and more down to poor finishing. Mo letting that ball drop instead of throwing himself at a header, then drilling the last clear chance straight at him (far post was open enough…) the obvious examples.

By and large Liverpool just moved the ball at pedestrian pace. Madrid’s rope a dope worked a treat and they constantly funnelled attacks into areas they were comfortable defending. Have to tip your hat to Ancelotti.

Cough cough Hillsborough cough cough

Real Madrid win their 5th European Super Cup by defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0. Benzema becomes RM 2nd highest goal scorer behind CR with 324 goals.

Ange to come up against Real Madrid.

Maty Ryan may miss the World Cup, nailed on to strain his back bending over to pick the ball out of the net against City, Sevilla and Dortmund.

Sevilla are much depleted now, and Dortmund are always Jekyll and Hyde.

lol Plzen, good luck!

Unbelievable result at Anfield

2-0 up and then to go on and get beaten 5-2 at home…

At the moment that’s very believable…

But still won on xg. So clinical. Such a weird game with the keepers trading gaffes. Real Madrid just own this competition in a remarkable way.

So are United fans wanting De Gea back yet?

Onana (and De Gea) are far from the first players who have come in or out recently that will play much better football away from Old Trafford. Something isn’t right in that club.

I was just saying this to a mate, they have a tremendous talent for ruining very good players, very quickly

No doubt that they needed to move on from De Gea but Onana appeared to be a pretty big gamble from the outset.
They had the answer to their GK problem with Dean Henderson but they never really appeared to want to give him a go.

Henderson wasn’t hugely convincing either. As a Liverpool fan I remember a game at OT watching Salah bear down on the United goal and Henderson made himself absolutely tiny. Didn’t come out to narrow, didn’t make himself big, just shrunk. Such a refreshing sight for me after the Schmeichel years!
