Away goal scrapped
I get the argument, but I think it’s a shame. Some of the great recent CL moments have been thanks to the away goals rule (it’s the only time in football that a single goal can change a ‘loss’ into a ‘win’).
The main issue I had with it was that it still applied in extra time in the second leg, but even that was fairer than it seemed:
Stupid idea by UEFA. Away goals rule.
You’re bang on there rowdy.
Seems to me that’s it actually more of an incentive to play for penalties.
Happy they’ve got rid of away goals. A goal should only be worth 1 in all circumstances.
I want them to get rid of extra time at the end of the second leg as well. Why should one team get an extra 30 minutes at home that the other side isn’t afforded. If, after 180 minutes, the tie is a draw then go straight to penalties.
I have no problem with extra time in one legged ties.
Nah they’ll keep extra time, and then give the higher coefficient team the second leg. Just goes along with the new rules guaranteeing high coefficient team to create super league by stealth.
It seems like an obvious cash grab to me. UEFA might think they can get extra TV dollars if the away goals rule is scrapped and therefore, increase the chances of an extra 30-45 minutes of screen time.
Doubtful it’s a cash grab. If they wanted more cash, they’d extend the halftime break by another 5 minutes and fill it with ads. I think it’ll make games a fair bit more competitive with teams not parking the bus if they’re ahead on away goals.
PSG casually bringing in Donnarumma, Wijnaldum and Sergio Ramos on frees and also signing Hakimi. Really going in hard to try win the UCL this time
Celtic knocked out of the Champions league
Can’t believe the Australian football media did that.
Should Dinamo Zagreb get past Legia Warsaw, and Red Star Belgrade get past Sheriff Tiraspol, they will play against each other for a place in the CL group stage.
This has to happen!
Please advise if this happens and where one can watch if it does!
Aaaaaand Red Star bow out to the Sheriff of Moldova. The dream will have to wait for another year.
Best to wait when we’re at 100% crowd capacity anyway. For maximum antics.
With Dinamo Zagreb also managing to lose to Sheriff of Moldova, the dream is back on in Europa League.
Tonight’s draw has Dinamo in Pot 1 and Red Star in Pot 2. Turkish, Russian, Austrian, Hungarian, Bulgarian teams in Pots 3 and 4 could add some 19th/20th century themed spice to the group too, while the diaspora in England (West Ham), France (Marseille), and Denmark (Midtjylland, Brøndby) from those pots could also make things interesting.
Nope. Red Star is in Braga’s group and Dinamo Zagreb is in Genk’s group. What a tease of a pre-season
Yes, Group B is a beyond death experience. Any of them might make it through.
