Where are they now?

Typical Aussie luck. Start to go well in Europe, then quickly get injured.

Not used to those soft pitches, cool weather, and overly technical instead of physical opposition.

Back on a marquee deal in three years

His interim role is over now though. Van Persie in at Feyenoord.

Promising little stint for him though.

Played really well yesterday afternoon (our time); Iā€™ve been really impressed in particular with his reading of the game so far. Yesterday was a particularly attritional game - and he showed up, which was a great sign. For one so young, and with such relative inexperience of senior football, Iā€™m a little disbelieving quite how good he looks. That said, itā€™s early days so Iā€™m not going to get ahead of myself in terms of expectations.

Re. yesterday, unfortunately he was injured in a challenge just before injury time and spent the last ten minutes hobbling about up front. Weā€™d used up all our permitted substitutes/slots so we switched some players about so he could stay on the pitch and at least give us an extra body.

Apparently left the stadium on crutches and in a protective boot. Iā€™m hoping that was just precautionary but given Pompey seem to have attracted a curse this season when it comes to injuries to centre backs, I fear the worst.

Yeah, feels like we go through a CB every couple of weeks at the moment - particularly concerning when Pack had to play there before Matthews came over.

If you hear anything about his injury and get a chance to report back, would appreciate an update.

PUP! PPU!

Going to Indian league immediately makes competent socceroo not good enough & unselectable for socceroos anymore. Ridiculous policy really.

Is it? Unless the Indian league has improved considerably, Iā€™d back the NT coaches on this one.

Yeah I saw enough of the Superannuation League to know itā€™s dogshit, and canā€™t imagine itā€™s improved since the money left. J-Mac could barely get a cap when he was banging them in in the ALM.

Iā€™m happy heā€™s found a football career for himself, even if it didnā€™t work out in Australia. His previous stint was in Malta. Not exactly the worst place to live, I imagine.

Weā€™re not going to get an update on the extent of Matthewā€™s injury until after the next game on Saturday.

Clearly out for this weekend though based on these comments, amongst a range of other players.

Iā€™m assuming John Mousinho is the Non-union Mexican equivalent of Jose Mourinho?

Donā€™t cry for Matthews, he was already injured

One of the chants at Fratton Park is: ā€œWho Needs Mourinho; weā€™ve got Mousinhoā€.

To be fair to the latter heā€™s had a remarkable start to his career as manager/head coach. Promotion to the Championship as a rookie in his first full season - he was still registered as a player with another League One side the day before he joined us. Heā€™s currently working with a budget thatā€™s widely accepted to be bottom three in the 24 team division and has dealt with an unprecedented level of injuries this season (of which Hayden appears to be one of the latest).

Some of the noise at this end suggests that Matthewsā€™ injury last Saturday may be season-ending - but I guess weā€™ll know when we hear from Mousinho after the game on Saturday (assuming this isnā€™t all a big ruse and heā€™s fit to start).

Hope you go well against Macarthur later today.
