2019-20 SFCU Player of the Season

Results for Round 9 vs Brisbane: Based on history I was expecting a couple of things here… usually big wins see the votes spread across the whole side, and if a player scores a hat-trick, they almost always take MOTM.

There were 23 voters, and only one didn’t give points to Adam Le Fondre, while someone else didn’t give any points to Alexander Baumjohann. In the end, these two both picked up 49 points and were joint MOTMs, the 8th time this has happened in SFCU MOTM history. The average of 4.26 / 6 votes going to these two players didn’t leave much else to go around, with three of the starting XI getting nothing, and another 4 were in single figures.

A reminder that voting is still open for the win over CCM:

Results for the Rd 10 win over CCM: Andrew Redmayne got his second clean sheet for the season and his second MOTM. We now have five players with 2 MOTMs this season: Redmayne, Milos Ninkovic, Rhyan Grant, Alexander Baumjohann* and Adam Le Fondre*. Luke Brattan is the only other player to take one so far.

* one of these was a joint win.

Hardly any votes so far for the Wellington match — please vote if you haven’t already!

Not many voters for the Wellington away draw, but they all pretty much agreed on the top 3: Luke Brattan got points from 12/14 of them to take MOTM, while 2nd and 3rd picked up points from 10/14 and 9/14 respectively. The next best was 5/14.

Now every player with a MOTM win this season has exactly two of them.

Get your votes in for the win over City here:

Result for the win over Melbourne City: Luke Brattan got his second in a row, becoming the first player to win 3 this season. There are five players with 2 MOTMs.

Voting for the win over Adelaide is still open:

Result for the home win over Adelaide: No surprises, as Paulo Retre got his 3rd career MOTM in the week he signed his contract extension. His vote tally was the second-highest so far this season, and it didn’t leave much for anyone else: the 3rd-placegetter only picked up 9 votes.

Please submit your votes for Rd 14 vs Newcastle if you haven’t already:

I’m guessing the away game followed by the bye led to small numbers, but the 13 people who did vote picked Milos Ninkovic as MOTM for the win over Newcastle. He was the only player to receive an average of more than one point per voter. It’s his third for the season, putting him level with Luke Brattan.

Voting vs Melbourne:

Rd 17 vs Brisbane:

Results for the away win over Melbourne:

Alexander Baumjohann became the second player to win SFCU MOTM and cop a red card in the same match (after Filip Hološko in the last game of the 2015–16 season). His tally of 60 votes from 18 voters is the equal-10th highest average score in a match, and easily the highest this season. His third MOTM of the season puts him level with Miloš Ninković and Luke Brattan on that tally, although one of them was shared.

Don’t forget to vote for last week’s match if you haven’t already – it’ll close on Friday evening.

Result in for Rd 17 vs Brisbane — not many votes again, but a clear winner in Luke Brattan. It’s his fourth for the season, and he is the first player to reach that mark.

Obviously there’s no voting open at the moment, thanks to everyone who’s voted so far.

Gave Brattan 3. Thought he was the dominant MF (across both teams) in the second half. Points also to McGowan (also dominant second half), Grant (what more could he do but score?) and Alf (for his second half, in particular).

I’d really like to increase voting rates so that we can make the results more representative of SFC fans’ views. So, as a new idea, every MOTM vote this season (including those submitted for rounds already completed) gets you one entry into a special Player of the Season raffle, to be held at the SFCU/Cove end-of-season fundraiser. The more often you vote, the higher chance you have of winning something. Prizes TBC.

Voting is still open for the Yokohama match here, and keep an eye out for the link after this evening’s match. If you’re new to it, check out the first post in this thread for full details.

Great idea

Round 20 vs CCM

Nailed on that after a clean sheet, allowing 2 shots on target and being out possessed ( albeit slightly) a midfielder will win.

Decent increase in numbers so far – thanks to everyone who’s voted. :+1:

If you haven’t yet – Voting for the ACL match is still open until tomorrow (Wed) night and CCM until Sunday.

Result for our first ACL game against Yokohama:

Anthony Caceres won the first MOTM of his Sydney FC career, in his 37th appearance for the club. Only 7 votes separated him from 2nd place though. Caceres is the eight different MOTM this season.

30 voters is the equal second-highest we’ve had all season, but turnout usually very low after heavy losses, so thanks to everyone who voted! There’s still time to vote for the CCM match here — don’t forget that each vote gets you an entry in the end-of-season raffle.
