AFIK, they don’t count. That payment is club to club.
I’ve no idea if transfer bonuses count. They probably do thou.

There was a time transfer fees did, back when Melbyville ponied up for Fatty Hernandez, but in that case and any other like it it’s on a marquee so their costs are outside the cap anyways.
The league then went through years without transparency on this stuff for us mere peasants. If they are still included, again I’d bet most fees are on the marquee / designated slots and so wouldn’t really impact the cap.
As there are no fees between ALM clubs and all bar 5 players need to be local, Aussie’s commanding fees like say Popovic from Gwangju are few and far between. Could be the reason why we had to haggle so hard and it took a while to get that deal done as no chance he’s taking one of those slots.
“I got in touch with Club Brugge, there was an issue with the relationship between Club Brugge and Adelaide United which took two to three weeks to smooth over. Once we got that over the line things started to progress, but it was a tough negotiation on the transfer fee,” he said.
“I had to explain the salary cap to them and how the transfer fee went into the salary cap, unless he was a marquee player. In Europe, they couldn’t get their heads around it.
“We agreed personal terms with Riley and then it was about making sure that Riley as an investment pays dividends.”
Relatively recent article quoting Djite about bringing McGree back from Brugge a few years ago.

Thanks for the sleuthing!
I’d like to just point out I was on the Kilmala bandwagon defending his quality while everyone else was rubbishing him because Uffy can’t setup a team properly.
How the turntables!
In other news, Hollman and Sega called up for the u23s in the FIFA window, March 19-25.
I sure hope we extend Hollman if he isn’t off overseas this winter.
You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman.
Hey I was pro Klimala purely because he’s Polish
Sydney Polish knobs
This is an interesting rumour from someone who is very well informed over on the WSW forum. The “he” is referring to is Alex Badolato.
He was supposed to go to Sydney FC on a permanent deal, we where going to get Burgess in return. Burgess however didnt want to come and wanted to annoy the Sydney FC people that had stuffed him around, so he said he would stay at Sydney until the end of the season when he is off contract.
Just a rumour of course but it makes sense, not sure whether to praise Burgess for not going over there or bemoan him for effectively stealing money from us. Ultimately it will be good to see the back of Burgess who is no doubt on half decent money, replacing him with say a CB on a similar salary.
Despite his name, Badolato is actually very, very good from what I have seen of him, Wests got like 20% of his potential out of him.
But also would Badolato even fit into the team? Or do we think if that deal was done, we wouldn’t have signed Ouahim for example?
We shouldn’t be surprised, Burgess has form in sitting out contracts.
We also shouldn’t be surprised they’re keen to hoover up someone who flattered to deceive here (still like the lad, don’t get me wrong).
Sorry, the quote related to the January window, I just didn’t include the whole interaction. Ouahim was already here.
I wonder if it may have been the preferred option rather than signing Sotirio with an eye to him being the permanent replacement for Sega given he still hasn’t signed an extension?
Ah I see I see, that makes more sense. You’re probably right. If we could have swapped Burgess for Badolato on a permanent deal that would have been excellent. Instead we got Jauauash To be honest I don’t think we would have needed Badolato but maybe the allure to him would have been being a big part of our future plans.
Maxy knows how much we hate the Westies, he couldn’t do it to us. Respect to the lad.
No idea tbf but that’s what I choose to believe
We’ll never know what’s true and the terms of the deal (if it existed), but maybe doing light training making $300-$400k isn’t the worst thing in the world and he was happy to do that while not playing for our archrivals. I hope he can manage to get a decent deal at another A League club next season, maybe somewhere like Brisbane or Perth. Probably at a pay cut but at least he’d get to play.
I don’t think he’ll be getting another gig at an A League club. When was the last time he left one on good terms?
Don’t get me wrong, he has a contract with this club and the club needs to honour it but you can’t forget the way he didn’t honour his end of the bargain at Western United because he wanted to move back here.
