I dont think anyone would be willing to give him a 2 year contract considering there’s so many unknowns with the salary cap. Until it’s set in stone, would anyone want to run the risk?

See MacArthur and Brattan?
has he re-signed? His contract expires this year as far as I can tell
Talay really destroyed Lolley this season, he was and should be the best player in the league and he was ran into the ground + played out of position constantly and had a real fall from grace the last half of the season. You could see why he might want to leave and if it happens then it’s another huge black mark on Talay. Yes he has a year left on his contract but he may want to leave + we want to get him off our books - meaning we don’t even care about a transfer fee. Lolley loves this city but he can still live in Bondi while playing for them, that’s a factor.
However the above article wording of ‘Wanderers could also be interested’ is a display of fine journalism. The journalist isn’t even pretending it’s based on anything other than his imagination, couldn’t even bring himself to use ‘are reportedly interested’.
Caceres - had a good season but possibly too little too late for me, I have been tiring of his playing style for a while now and he’s basically a nailed on starter that affects the whole flow of the game. I do think we might need something new to go on and win things. He is also getting older. We forget the few seasons where for 95% of games he was invisible. He is probably getting paid too much for a player we’d want to start on the bench.
Lolley is a difficult one though. With Costa in the team, playing right wing, it makes it very difficult to fit Lolley in at the same time. I’ve often found that they don’t complement each other’s styles of play. Costa definitely more technical with some sexy through balls and passing play, whereas Lolley absolutely loves cutting in from the right and taking the shot (which made him so effective over the past few years). It feels almost similar to Ninkovic and Adrian playing in the same time, where Ninko definitely faded while Adrian was playing for us.
Also take into account he’s only scored two less goals in the regular A-League season than last year, plus extra goals for Asia, plus equal assists over both seasons. In terms of contribution, he’s not been that far off. We’ve definitely relied on him less, considering Klimala and Sega have been firing as well, with our main downfall being defence. Last year Lolley was joint top goal scorer on 11, whereas this year highest goals were 13 with Sega and Klimala on 11 which meant less pressure on him to score.
Except we were mostly chasing results, so there was always plenty of pressure to score.
Lolley is a fake rumour. Lolley loves Sydney and is already getting paid a fair bit - Perth would have to offer a crap load to snag him off us and they have no money.
He still played pretty well considering the positions Talay put him in
I’ll contend that Costa should be absolutely playing on the left. His best asset is his crossing. He is still able to find a yard to get a good cross in, or even a pass to someone who is making an off-the-ball run.
What works against the rest of the team is that he himself moves at a snail’s pace with the ball most of the time, followed by a rapid sideways move to pick out a pass or cross. It stops the play, much like Burgess does and Caceres used to. It takes away Lolley’s ability to have defenses backtracking and doesn’t allow him to run at them.
Sometimes this happens because a player and a coach have a great relationship and the coach knows he can trust the player to do what he needs…
And he scored most of them at the front half of the season. He was leading the golden boot at one point!
I thought there were rumours that Lolley himself didn’t want to be rested?
I heard a rumour he was perfectly content with the exact amount of game time he had.
Rumour had it he wanted to skip Talays team talks and jump straight into the toddler racing at HT.
I heard he was unhappy he was played out of position and his preferred position was “toddler”
I heard he was showing up to training drunk.
Anyone remember that? Lolley rumours often end false. Except the one where its alleged he might cut in from the right onto his left.
To be fair, with Talays tactics you could argue Talay was showing up drunk.
I don’t know if that’s true, but if it is, it comes back to the manager not being strong enough to sit someone out if they’re physically exhausted. Anyone could see that after the third game in that five game stretch, when he played pretty much every minute.
Mentioned in the Zdrillic out thread a fair bit but Kucharski is on the way out. Fair enough hes out of contract and 22, hes absolutely shown enough to have gotten far more minutes and needs to go somewhere that can offer that. Seen a twitter comment that hes off to Perth- fully willing to bet he’ll score a hat trick against us next season
Theres this in a Rugari article
The Sky Blues will announce later this week that it has released midfielder Max Burgess and young attacker Jaiden Kucharski, while it is working on re-signing Socceroos Anthony Caceres and Alex Grant. Top scorer Adrian Segecic is expected to depart for an opportunity in Europe.Juan Mata interested in buying into A-League
Good watch.
