Robbie Slater claims that the Matildas were “pampered” during Olympic preparation. That guy really needs to grow the fuck up.

I wouldn’t say they were pampered, but more so they were put on an impossibly high pedestal that could have inflated their own egos. The “good” accomplishments in major tournaments, followed by a massive turnout at the World Cup in terms of viewing and numbers would have really gone to a few player’s heads.
There’s obviously some issues with the culture, internal and external that significantly needs to shift. They need to investigate and do it properly, rather than sending out some shitty surveys that are acted upon without consideration for any bigger picture things.
It’s strange to me that Stajcic was sacked based on a survey, yet by these reports, the Matildas had even more discontent with Gustavson from a tactical point of view, yet nothing came out of that until he was sacked

I’m with you there, and realistically we’ll be falling to somewhere like 15th-20th in the world over the next few years, but the insinuation from Slater was that the Matildas were being “pampered” despite the fact the Matildas program is on a similar footing to the Socceroos these days, or at least much closer to the Socceroos program than before.
It remains staggering that someone willingly pays Slater to write when he’s infinitely worse at that than he ever was on the box.

The lack of accountability for the Matildas’ performances in the media is insane. There are a few cheerleaders in the women’s media who will never write a negative word about them.
They should be “pampered”, to give the players the best chance at success in major tournaments. That will only get better as more money is invested worldwide in women’s football and we desperately try to catch up as the traditional football nations overtake us (will only be a matter of years, at most, as this process has already begun).
I’m quite willing to buy into the allegation that Stajic was sacked on a pretext so that someone else could get the WC glory after his prep work but that plan was derailed with the outcry resulting in Milicic getting the role which was probably still a better option than the original conspiracy.
I remember there being a pretty big push for a female coach after Stajcic.
Seriously! Horse dancing is an olympic sport. And the jockey gets the credit? Cmon.
At a point in time when we need to genuinely restructure our women’s national team, and pretty much everything underpinning it, let’s all sit down and have another fucking survey.
