Australian Women’s National Team Thread - Our best chance at a World Cup

I don’t believe it

The best thing about this is that we don’t have to wait all that long. I remember there was something like 7 or 8 years between winning the rights for the Olympics and actually hosting them.

We have a strong team and most of the players will still be around. Really won’t get a better chance to win a world cup

So do we think will Ante be sacked 3 weeks before the tournament or 4 weeks before?

Amazing news. Will definitely try and get a family package for the Sydney games.
Is Newcastle hosting games too?

A nice little sweetener for the next TV deal as well.

Yep:

I went to bed pretty confident we would get it but I still woke up shocked. Just three years from now we will be hosting a fucking world cup. That’s astonishing.

On top of the thrill of winning the bid, I must say UEFA can absolutely eat a bag of dicks. From voting in a bloc for a clearly inferior bid, to justifying their clearly collective back-scratching deal as “developing the game in South America”, to criticising FIFA’s rating process for the bids, they have been absolute scoundrels. Fuck 'em.

I just can’t wait for the inevitable Kerrtex petrol stations around the country… :stuck_out_tongue:

Surreal to think we’ll actually have a home football world cup. Went to bed with low expectations happy to see they were exceeded massively. Amazing stuff

Developing football in SOUTH FUCKING AMERICA is the biggest load of horse shit in the world

Yeah, that’s what we did for the Asian Cup and it was awesome. No regrets at all.

One of my favourite things about the 2015 Asian Cup, aside from just having so much high quality live football on, was the diversity and atmosphere created by having so many countries’ diasporas cheering on their team.

So, because I have a day off today with nothing particularly to do, here’s the top 50 countries by womens’ FIFA world rankings, with the number of people (to 2 sig. fig.) living in Aus+NZ born in that country:

Ranking Country Approx Total Ranking Country Approx Total

EDIT: Fixed for pedantry. :stuck_out_tongue: I write about small numbers far more often than big numbers, so d.p. was pure reflex.

Just because i’m pedantic, but you’re thinking of significant figures rather than decimal points

AFL apparently completely shot Melbourne in the foot so they won’t get anything later than a Quarter Final:

I had been talking myself into going to North America for the men’s WC in 2026, and I fear having a World cup here 3 years earlier will make me want to do that even more.

One taste and you’re hooked

Further proof, as if it were needed, that the AFL are cunts

And still eddie Maguire tries to act like he supported the bid

They should build a rectangular stadium for World Cup matches in Tasmania, then an A-League/W-League team can move on in to their new home. How’s that for legacy.
