Cheerleaders 2018

Just came out of a performance by Maria Bamford at The Enmore. That was some very funny shit.

Almost went but put off getting tickets for too long. How did Demi go as support act?

Demi Lardner was the perfect warm up, funny but not funnier than the main act. She is one of my favourite Australian comedians and needs to make the next jump to being the main act in a big venue.

That sounds great. She’s hilarous and unhinged but hardly done any of her solo shows since COVID I think?

Her and Tom seem to be focusing on twitch and their pod (my wife is obsessed) but good to see her dipping her toe back into doing shows again.

Weirdly I was re-listening to Demi Lardner’s Mugg Off ep (RIP)… unhinged is spot on. Instant classic.

I’m a fan of Maria, almost went myself but I’m going to Ali Wong next weekend.

Saw Ari Shaffir at the Enmore a couple weeks ago, lots of decent touring comics right now.

Poor Kid passed away over the weekend :frowning: at least his family had all made it over from Egypt to be with him in time. The treatment stopped working after a few days unfortunately and within days the mass had grown to it’s previous size again.

My partner had 3 of her patients pass away in the last week, one of the situations really shook her up. On Friday this 18 year old was told by doctors he had a few days left. His wish was to die at home rather than in hospital, so they started the procedure of discharging him and booking in transport to take him back to Essex (bear in mind, this guy was at deaths door, couldn’t walk, was heavily sedated etc). The transport wasn’t able to take him for around 4 hours and the parents completely lost control of themselves (understandable in the circumstances) and insisted on taking him home in an Uber.

They tried to talk them out of doing that, because it would have been a very uncomfortable journey for him as opposed to an ambulance with people specially trained to help him with pain etc. But they were so scared he would die in the hospital that they wanted to rush him home. There wasn’t really much they could do to convince them otherwise, even convincing transport to do the journey in 30 mins time wasn’t enough. But before he could leave the hospital, discharge papers needed to be signed as legally he was under the care of the hospital and because he was 18, the parents didn’t have the authority to just take him without the proper forms being signed.

They asked them to wait 5 minutes for the forms to be printed, and signed by the correct people from the hospitals side. When she was off organising this, one of her nurses runs into the office saying they had gone. The parents had taken him out of the bed, taken out all his tubes/lines etc and left the ward.

They run downstairs and in the reception they see the parents, running with the guy in the dads arms out the front door onto the street in central London. Police etc had to be called as they had essentially kidnapped him as he was under the hospitals care, not theirs. Pretty confronting stuff for her and her staff, don’t know how they do it. They got him home in an uber and he ended up passing away the following evening at home.

Family do some crazy things trying to deal with grief.

I’m sorry she had to deal with that. At least they got him home eventually.

Dude …

I dont think it’s crazy. The kids dying wish was to go home to die. They just want to get him home and spend as much time as they can with him there before he passes.

Do what you have to do and then deal with the consequences later.

This is the shit that politicians should be forced to experience. Then any time they talk about cuts to health care you fucking smack them in the face.

Anyone live around Potts point/Woolloomooloo area? Close to the city/work, but seems a bit boring I guess?

Trying to decide whether to move there or out to Randwick/Coogee again. I guess the real decision is walking to the beach vs walking to work?

Yeah they were just trying to do what they thought was best, but the grief meant they weren’t thinking straight. The situation probably would have been sorted much more quickly if they kept their wits about them, but they were too distressed to think/act clearly.

Just reminded me of another fucked up story they had on their ward last year. This girl passed away aged around 13 and just before she went, the family had been ‘researching’ on the internet about this company in America that can freeze the bodies so that they can be brought back to life when medicine advances to that stage. They paid this company like 30k to take their child’s body away to be frozen, however it’s a real grey zone in terms of if it’s legal etc.

She passed during the night when there are no senior managers in to deal with the situation, so these young ward nurses are trying to deal with these 2 random blokes who showed up with essentially a bathtub full of ice to take away the body of this young girl. Luckily they didn’t let the guys take the body and when security came up they left and the family apparently never heard from them again, lost all the money. My partner said the parents were really smart normal people, but grief makes people do weird things.

When it comes to your kids, you’d do anything to protect or save them.

Rough stories mate.

Office is at Hyde park and few people in that area - they absolutely rate it. Can see their apartments from our office, makes me want to do the same. Only issue would be the wind down from work. I’m 15 mins on a bus at most and that isn’t enough, but a 15 min walk might be a bit different to battling cunts on public transport.

Can you afford the Surry Hills or Redfern area?

It would be a longer walk to work, or a bus ride for both work and the beach, but plenty of good bars and restaurants around, and easy to get into the CBD and the beaches.

Ever since kids, I’ve found it hard to even watch movies that have children in danger in them and stuff like that. Harder even when they’re the same age of my kids. Couldn’t imagine what i’d do in that sort of a situation, but can definitely say I wouldn’t even be close to thinking straight.

Is Kings Cross so shit now that Potts Point is boring?

Yep, NIMBYs, COVID, the lock out laws and the Developers killed it.

Where did all the strip clubs go?

Asking for a friend …

Oh, just remembered something, Bathurst has kiddies in balaclavas running around on pit bikes now!
