It’s not Sony. It’s an Akai off the top of my head. It’s not a smart tv at any rate.

Even if you get a wifi router, I’m not convinced that it will work. The chromecast needs an internet connection to work unless that’s changed recently.
Edit: Actually, they now do support working without an internet connection, as long as it has the latest firmware.
It might do the trick. Just check if it’s wifi enabled and plug it in. If you can detect it with your phone wifi it’ll do the trick. Although double check as most phones don’t allow you to be connected to wifi and also act as an internet hotspot at the same time
I don’t know about others but whenever I chromecast Optus Sports it buffers constantly. Usually takes me 50-55 minutes to watch a half of football.
do you have internet?
Mine works well, never buffers, even before I had NBN.
The 3-4 games I watched over the weekend I buffered once.
But it’s j league so probably less demand.
Do any of the new smart Tv’s have the Optus Plus Sport app installed on them, or can you download it on to them? Might be in the market soon for a new screen
Yes, if you buy one that has Android TV. Sony use Android TV and I know there are some Kogans that do as well. You just open the store on the TV and download the app (free). I have Optus, Kayo and the FTA catch-up apps installed. It works quite well, the only annoying thing is that the apps have various players, so functions vary across apps (e.g. some apps you need to hold down FF, where as others you press multiple times to move ahead in 30 second increments).
Found my old router/modem.
Looks like it will do the job, but I can’t remember the password for it …
usually has it on a sticker on it. Otherwise default is
username: admin
password: password
or
username: admin
password: admin
Worst case scenario, you can factory reset it - there’ll be a pin hole button on it somewhere.
Thanks for the info mate that’s brilliant. I’ll definitely put Android TV at the top of the specs I need
I did that I think. Still broadcasting the same name.
NBN with iiNet, anywhere between 60-100 mbps. Never any issues with Netflix, Stan, Amazon etc. To be fair Optus have come a long way since the blurry picture quality of the early days, still a frustrating experience though.
No probs. I’m really happy with my Sony Bravia FWIW. Also have Netflix installed and use that all the time, plus it has a built in chrome cast. Actually, also use the YouTube app a lot for my fix of dashcam videos.
Previous TV was a Samsung and the smart TV interface was terrible.
Got a Sony Bravia as well. No complaints here. Hadn’t looked for the Optus app on it recently though. Great to hear it’s finally there.
How addictive is watching dashcam videos!
Finally moving back into our house this weekend after 4 months of renovations. Splashback still not installed by f*%( it, need my privacy. Plus my new graphics card arrived…
I’ve reset the Edimax N150 Wireless ADSL2/2+ Modem router. So the name I had given it when I used it previously has gone and it appears on this computer without a lock on it.
Can’t connect.
Do we know how the data is used by the setup? If the data is just on my personal phone and the wifi from my work phone is just a pipeline with no impact on it’s data I might just stick with that for the short term.
