Extending Talay would be one of the lowest points for the club in 20 years. We have been shambolic this season, one of the worst coached seasons I can remember.

Sydney FC is pleased to confirm that Head Coach Ufuk Talay has signed on for a further season, following a standout campaign that saw the Sky Blues reach the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League 2 and remain firmly in contention for an A-League Finals berth.
Talay’s leadership has reinvigorated the squad, blending emerging talent with experienced players to create a dynamic and cohesive unit.
Young stars Jaiden Kucharski, Zac De Jesus, Wataru Kamijo, and Tiago Quintal have all benefited from increased game time and development opportunities under Talay.
Their growth has been supported by the presence of marquee signing Douglas Costa, who is enjoying his most consistent form since arriving in Sydney, both on the pitch and as a mentor to the next generation.
Throughout the season, Sydney FC has demonstrated attacking flair and tactical resilience, despite facing significant challenges, including injuries, an intensive travel schedule, and the mid-season departure of promising defender Hayden Matthews.
Sydney FC CEO Mark Aubrey praised Talay’s impact:

If this happens then all it shows is that the folks running the club simply do not care anymore. All that work the past decade the club and certain individuals have done to raise our standards to the point where this club has been the benchmark of the A-League on and off the field is being pissed away at an alarming rate. Its downright negligence.

The ACL run by itself is reason enough NOT to renew. Still embarrassed losing to a Singaporean team. We blew what was probably our best chance ever to win an Asian trophy

I don’t think this is the right take. Lion city actually made it past the group stage in the old champions league. They were not going to be push overs… when did we do this last ? And from how many attempts?
Preparation could have been better yes. I think I recall Klimala saying in an interview that he knows nothing about LCS. This is probably what led to our downfall

They had a squad value of 6m Euros compared to our 9m. We should have been favourites but’s not like we’re leagues in front of them.
