Israel v Everyone - M.A.D or Peace in the Middle East?

To be fair, Hamas didn’t deliver on what they were meant to. Still, don’t expect a proportionate response. Always strikes me as odd how strikes intensify prior to ceasefire. I get it, but so not in line with the idea they’ve somewhat come closer to an agreement.

In this case it’s even more depressing, in that it shows there are no real tangible achievable objectives, and the whole exercise hasn’t been to achieve some objective level of safety, but more just grind a population into the dirt to try and set them back as far as possible. A few more airstrikes, a couple of dozen more dead civilians, because Hamas.

No way this whole war leads to a lasting peace. Completely expected yet utterly depressing. Still, if tomorrow less civilians die and some hostages are returned home, we’re in a better place than yesterday.

I don’t see any hope for lasting peace with the current powers in play. I also don’t see Trump stopping Netanyahu in any way. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Israel break the ceasefire and just continue to slaughter the people of Gaza.

Yeah as long as it’s not an official war, Israel can do what it wishes and the orange bellend will be satisfied that the pax trumpana is not violated

Sauce? I haven’t read anything saying such…

Ceasefire is now about 1 hour along. Several hours until the first Israeli hostages are to be freed.

A few million people are suffering because an entire nation is using “anti-semitism” as a shield to paint any justifiable criticism of a fucking horrific genocide as simple racism. But please make it all about everyone else

They delayed for 3 hours as Hamas reportedly didn’t send the names of the 3 Israeli hostages being released. Bit of a shit reason do delay a ceasefire and i’m sure it was to try and get a few more bombs in there.

3 hostages have now been released and Israel due to release 90 Palestinians as the first round of swaps. They’re talking of a total of 30 hostages being swapped for 2000 Palestinians.

Important to note this is 100% the first stage on this end. It’s a 42 day Ceasefire and no confirmation as to what occurs next. Israel may well just re-open the attacks the moment they want.

Not a big delay but a delay nonetheless. Hamas themselves released a statement saying it was operational technical issues or some other similar fluffy wording.

Don’t necessarily blame Israel for not starting the ceasefire then, Hamas doesn’t really seem that trustworthy.

Now started, hope it holds. Hopefully all hostages released, but seems unlikely as then Hamas is out of bargaining chips when Israel starts bombing again. 15 months of hell for all involved and probably hasn’t moved the needle an inch.

We can look forward to Israeli settlements in the Gaza strip, no doubt built in record time while Palestinians are forcibly deported to Indonesia. I’d say the needle has moved from the status quo prior to October 7, away from a sham peace process - now Israel’s ethnic cleansing agenda is unmasked.

I guess they figure they will bomb those 2000 into oblivion eventually so a good deal

They are mostly West Bank residents, so not unless their puppet government there collapses.

I’ve seen socials posts going around of children being shot in Gaza today, but hard to know if it’s fake or old… can’t see any reports of it

Wait, AJE has it. Three Palestinians killed in Rafah since the “ceasefire”

Could go here or random football thread, equally…

The hard Orthodox wing of Netanayu’s party saw this war as a perfect opportunity to do what they’ve always wanted to do. Create a “Greater” Israel. Jordan to be brutal has always regretted the Palestinian’s they took in years ago so I doubt they’ll want any more unless several billion in ongoing “aid” from America is furnished and Egypt specifically has built barriers in place all along the border at the beggining of all of this to again, stop Palestinians from crossing into Egypt. They too will wants a dump truck full of “aid” before they consider this.

I’m not sure if I’ve posted this before. It’s a long form book review of something called Righteous Victims: A History of the Zionist Conflict from 1881-2001. During the course of the review a synopsis of the book is provided with some historical context. Quite interesting. The author is described as a “liberal zionist”. It’s quite long so settle in.

Trump just said he’s met Netenyahu, the US will apparently take Gaza over, rip everything down a rebuild

Two state solution: Israel and the US.

I’m sure its a very balanced analysis.

Edit: read through the conclusion, same ridiculous talking points you get from every other braindead “liberal zionist”.

President Donald Trump says he wants the United States to take possession of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it into a home for people from all over the world after Palestinians are permanently resettled elsewhere, a move that has quickly been likened to ethnic cleansing.

Nothing to see here, just a standard real estate deal…
