What good is having a spicy take if you don’t yell out to the public/ post it on an internet forum?

Yeah I want a vindaloo.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to say you’re an anti-semite or anything, more that it’s difficult to say “prominent/wealthy Jews influence our position on Israel” without giving credit to the actual Neo-Nazi argument that “Jews secretly control our government/media/finance sector.” Obviously they do, but plenty of our conservatives or even Labor centrist would be happy to support Israel without any kind of input from them for the geo-political cred of being on Team USA.
To be fair that’s because the government is doing nothing about it. So I wouldn’t call trying to move them in a direction nothing.
Not only that but Cuba, the US and Canada turning away of boats full of Jewish refugees… lots to feel guilty for.
See, in the end, the problem is just people.
This is what I’m reminded of nearly every day, and why I chose a career in programming.
We certainly don’t have a problem with attitudes towards indigenous people in this country. No sir.
This sort of shit is the most common racism I hear in this country.
The “radical Aboriginal left”. JFC …
Jesus, the acknowledgement of Europeanness is a new low. I guess inevitable given how much the far right has latched onto even the token sovereignty of a welcome…
Good job on Labor, thanks to their stance, the “Muslim Vote Movement” has picked up and they’re actively targeting anyone that hasn’t supported the Palestinian peace process. They have a list of all the politicians and their records on Palestine. I guess maybe the Muslim Vote Movement will vote in solidarity, just like their caucus…
First targets are Tony Burke and Jason Clare. Burke has a 25.1% Muslim electorate and Clare has a 31.7% Muslim electorate… Both have voted against Ceasefire motions as well as shown pro-Israel support…
America supports Israel so Australia supports Israel.
It’s cute when people think Australia isn’t America’s bitch.
When have people ever thought that was not the case with Australia and the USA?
We’ve always been the unofficial 51st State.
Just without cheap booze and guns.
Whilst individual politicians are free to express their opinions against American oops Australian foreign policy the overarching geopolitical reality is that unless a significant shift in American empire approach to the Middle East then nothing significant that Australia says or does on a local level will have any effect at all at this time on the Israel/Palestine conflict.
Pretty sure I saw in certain states in the US, politicians were introducing requirements that prevented those in government from disparaging Israel. The irony is that they’re not prevented from disparaging the US…
Good, let them support the libs.
You cant really reduce Jewish people around the world as Israeli diaspora. Jewish migration was from a myriad of places to a myriad of places. There are a multitude of varied views on Israel, on Zionsim, on Palestine etc etc.
I kinda get the caucus stuff but also I’ve been in shit jobs where bad decisions were made by powerful people and you could speak up but you weren’t going to change their mind and they were probably going to make you suffer for it. I quit those jobs.
My parents and grandparents were very active Labor members, I spent a fair bit of my childhood crawling around the floor at the local Labor branch meetings, but when I was old enough to join the party it decided it would lock innocent, desperate foreigners up in overseas prisons forever.
Change from within! Change from within! Change from within!
Every Labor member is constantly assuring the outside world that they’re changing things from within. So surely those changes should be just around the corner…right?
So I guess it was all an orchestrated move on Payman’s part after all.
Almost said that’s what it looked like at the time, but thought that was too cynical. Now it turns out she’s been meeting with political strategists for a while, to engineer a move to the cross bench.
Ce la vi, I suppose. Good luck to her.
