Movie Thread VII: Adrian's Revenge

It’s funny, I thought Kevin Anderson’s Star Wars stuff was decent enough

I know I’m going to walk out at the end of the movie, think to myself that it was great and vow never to see it again. Anyone who has seen Denis Villeneuve’s “Incendies” knows that feeling.

Good category of flicks. See…

  • Requiem for a Dream
  • Joker
  • Titane
  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Schindler’s List
Old Boy

I don’t think I could ever watch this a 2nd time.

I have only seen Saving Private Ryan the once. No more. The opening battle scene is just too much

There’s heaps of Aussie films like that

Bad Boy Bubby
Little Fish
Angel Baby
and a ton of Aussie films from the early 2000 involving character’s and their addiction.

You can’t watch Bad Boy Bubby again?

It’s rewatch worthy!

Snowtown

Thanks, but no thanks.

I still haven’t stopped thinking about it since I watched it a month back.

As far as films that are great but I could never revisit, for Australian films “Balibo” is up there.

Elsewhere, the John Woo picture “Bullet in the Head” was too heavy for me to give a second spin to.

Absolutely

Great movie. Not sure there are too many war movies that invoke that kind of panic.

I drove past that place once. Never again.

Seen this quite a few times despite the intensity. Incredible movie.

Shutter Island is one I saw that just haunted me for a while and I’ve never been able to bring myself to watch again. Possession (1981) is in the same boat, one of the most intense cinema experiences of my life.

I saw Old Boy for the first time a few months ago, so still kind of processing it.

Also, Old Boy must be one of a rare few movies where the twist isn’t out there in the World and one where people who have seen it are really protective of the twist. I have a feeling that people like to keep the twist to themselves so they can see the reaction from other people when they finally watch it.

Yeah the alien bit in the second half floored me.

Old Boy has been mentioned here a couple of times and I just heard someone else randomly mention it on a podcast I was listening to.

I’ve not seen the film, but now I’m interested.

To confirm, which one are we talking about?

There’s a 2003 version directed by Park Chan-wook, and another 2013 Spike Lee version.

I’m guessing the former?

South Korean version. Definitely.

I did a mini-binge of late 60’s / early 70’s oscar nominated movies. Some of them absolutely stand the test of time and some really don’t. I’d seen most before, but really enjoyed The Sting and A Soldier’s story.

Next up is a John Woo 80’s/90’s movie retrospective, basically from A Better Tomorrow up to Mission Impossible II. I’d go earlier, to stuff I haven’t seen, but they’re hard to find.
