Yeah I really enjoyed the movie but was softest on the last section.

Watched Dune Part 2 last night. I didn’t mind it at all. It wasn’t as good as the first, it seemed to just go way too fast at certain points. They could have probably split it into 3 slightly shorter movies, than 2 long ones, just to give more time. They completely glossed over the final invasion and just made certain points occur without giving any context. Still definitely enjoyable.
My biggest bone was the thing with the shields. It was almost random when they would stop a blade and when they’d let one through. Very annoying to watch, despite the fact that it was a fairly big part of the books, trying to adapt to fighting without the shields. The movie made it so that the knife had to be pushed very slowly through, whereas the book was a slowing down, but fast enough for a fight to continue.
Same thing with Dune Prophecy…which is set soooooo far in the past. Technology basically hadn’t evolved at all in the movies.
Not sure how much you know about the universe, but there’s a reason on the lack of technology based on the fact that they were almost wiped out by AI and robots. That’s why there’s so little automation and development in the universe.
Edit: Even the shields are meant to have a nuclear explosion if hit by lasers (or something like that) which is why they only use swords/knives
Saw both Dunes on an iMax. Can recommend
Yeah, you definitely lose something not seeing either of those Dune movies on a big screen.
A Real Pain is great, a couple of very funny and charming lead performances that also has a nice emotionally-gripping core and also feels surprisingly tense in places. Up there with Anora for my favourites among the Oscar eligible films this year.
I really liked A Real Pain, it was a total winner for me.
Nosferatu I didn’t dig so much. I get what they were going for, and appreciate it, but it was not really for me.
I had the exact same reaction to Nosferatu, it was a movie I appreciated more than liked. I much prefer Eggers’ other work
Looks pretty dull to be fair. Sort of a blackhawk down kind of vibe.
Yeah, exactly what I said, US Army wankfest
Barbarian is one of the great modern horror movies… keen to give this a look
Longlegs got me. Somewhat of a devisive ending but Nick Cages performance literally kept me up all night. Pays homage to Silence of the Lambs, Zodiac and Se7en… def worth a watch.
Really? I found it incredibly boring until there were about 5 minutes to go. Prepared to accept that I’m in the minority though based on reviews.
Saw Companion last night which was thoroughly enjoyable.
I was extremely hyped for Longlegs but then when I saw it I was a little underwhelmed. It was still excellent but I had very high hopes based on trailers etc. I thought the start and end were great but most of the middle part lost me a bit. The premise alone was perfect for what I like to see in a horror movie.
Just saw ‘The Brutalist’. It’s a long one but very well done.
The intermission probably helps but it zooms by.
Yeah it didn’t feel like it was over three hours. Great movie. I know the second half of the movie has been a bit divisive but I really liked it.
This was fantastic. Think if ex-machina was a slasher-comedy.
8/10
