Amazingly that’s the flagship store, directly across from McDonalds Aus Head office. It gets a refurb every 2 years or so.

I stop there sometimes driving up to the Central Coast.

It’s the only Maccas where I’ve enjoyed the coffee.

Probably still coming up with a new process to dry the mops

A new one opened on the Orange road near me. I walked down one Sunday morning to get a muffin and a coffee. The feeling that I was imposing by walking into the shop and ordering and wanting to sit and eat there was palpable. Same feeling at the same maccas in town.

Since Covid. They shut down dining in, and it feels like they figured “well, I feel pretty good about not having to clean the place”…

Should see how bad Hungry Jacks was on the twin petrol stations going up north during one of the public holidays. They completely stopped taking orders at one point.

Where have they shut down Maccas “eat in”? It hasn’t shut down at any Maccas I’ve been to. Then again, I don’t go to eat there too often anymore.

I thought they were all shut during lock down

They were shut during lock down.

Kelso Maccas was slow to open back up.

Dine in is now an impediment to their drive thru and uber eats models.

Ah is that what it is.

Yep.

Go into Maccas or Hungry jacks and while you’re waiting someone will come in to pick up someone else’s food. And it’s not like the franchise gives a shit about the quality when it gets to the customer.

Anyone that Uber Eats Maccas is crazy.

That shit doesn’t travel well, even when you pick it up yourself.

I can only imagine how bad it is when your order is just one of a handful of deliveries the Uber driver has going concurrently.

(For the record, I rarely use any food delivery service. Much rather order/pickup my own directly with the restaurant. I am not a crackpot,)

They’ve started putting in a delivery service pickup counter facing outside so the drivers don’t have to mix with retail customer.

Peter Gilmore’s The Quay restaurant has been hosting a Snow Egg event, where for about a hundred bucks you get to try the now famous dessert as seen on Masterchef (apparently) paired with a glass of champagne.

A relative had reserved two spots for her and my brother, but then fell ill and was unable to go, so I agreed to take her place.

I appreciate the effort it would take to make/perfect, and it tasted very nice, but I can’t say it’s worth $60 per serve (the glass of bubbles had a list price of $38 per glass).

Still, it’s about the experience I suppose. We did get some great views of the Bridge & Opera House lit up for Vivid.

Take me to the harbour…

It’s not even the mixing. I’ve walked into take aways with no one in them and told it’s a 20 min wait for food. Fucking uber orders.

That’s how it is moving forward. Cars are the priority now & walk in customers are a pain in the arse.

Each franchise has metrics that from car ordering to pick up at window it shouldn’t be more than 3 minutes, anything more than that then the manager will get hauled over the coals by HQ. Cars are preferable, the customer rocks up on roads that someone else had paid for, they drive a car that someone else has paid for & then they leave with no mess, no interaction, no Karen’s & Kevin’s doing some mental gymnastics with some poor 15 year old kid, no Saturday night violent pissheads hassling some poor kids. Even the restaurants inside have about a dozen terminals which basically say " Order here, don’t talk to our staff & fuck off " .

Tbh the only two things which those places (McDs) offer as a positive difference from so many other takeaways are - longer open hours with drive through. The food is miles worse by every conceivable metric. If I want something fast, I’ll get bahn mi or a local sushi train. If i want a kids playground I would rather mine play on some rocks near the house than become enamoured with that place

There ain’t no banh mi on the Hume Hwy.

The only thing I disagree with here is the absence of Karen’s. My daughter works drive thru and some of the stories of Karen encounters really make me despair at the state of the world!
