In other feelgood news to wake up to, Leverkusen won what was supposed to be their toughest game left 5-1 away at Eintracht Frankfurt.
48 games unbeaten in all competitions (I read unconfirmed that this ties the record with Benfica across Europe’s top 10 leagues). 2 league games left, away to Bochum and home to Augsburg, Roma again in the second leg of the Europa semi (2-0 up so Final vs either Atalanta or Marseille also on the cards), then the DFB-Pokal against Kaiserslautern.
I’m gonna ride that unbeaten run like it’s career season 20 in a game of FM.
He probably wants to go to Madrid next and is just waiting for that and hoping that another season or two at Leverkusen buys him time for Carlos A to move on etc. Was always super presumptive of the English press etc to assume that he would just take the Liverpool job if offered it.
Good on him for taking on another season at Leverkusen that honestly couldn’t ever live up to this one. Maybe semis of Champions League would be the next want
I think he’s kept some extremely close links with Liverpool despite leaving. He’s talked about going back and how much he valued his time there. Just read an article where it’s been suggested that there wasn’t actually any formal contact directly with Alonso. Liverpool approached Bayern and they responded by saying he was focusing on the league and any contact would be improper at the time.
Bayer Neverlusen do it again, 2-2 draw with Roma coming from 2-0 down (both penalties), pulling one back via an OG and then equalising with the last kick of the game in the 97th minute.
49 now unbeaten, 4 games to go now including the Europa final against Atalanta (who dispatched Marseille).
My truest glory days was on FIFA winning the World cup with Finland off just academy players from my Forrest Green Rovers. It was a huge Mourinho/ Greece at the Euros effort with group stages results of 0-0, 0-0, 1-0 then knocking England out on pens in R16, winning quarters 1-0 over Argentina, winning pens again in the semis before clinching the final 1-0. Went for tiki-taka the next world cup, got bundled out in the quarters and sacked.
