For someone who is probably on good coin, I think we should find someone we don’t have to carry for half a season. This season has been largely disappointing from him, even if he’s still sometimes able to deliver the quality we know he has. Having Mak here is also stopping Segecic or Kucharski from starting.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he just went back to Europe, anyway.
I wonder if Mak can recommend us someone. Adam Zrel’ak and Ivan Schranz seem to be about the ideal age to join us, and they’re in the Slovakian national team at the moment.
I wake up most days and don’t even remember my name or where I am so no.
As for Mak, he was, quite literally, a hot and cold player. Middle of the season when it’s 30c at kick off? A spectator. Last two months of the season when the weather has cooled? A killer. I’ll look back on him fondly.
I’ll definitely miss him. Was a fan of him from his first game. Watching his little red face when it was hot was kinda hilarious, bit he gave it his all and brought us some incredible memories and passion.
There’s been no reports as to the reason he left. Could have been a too low contract offer, could be the potential for him to lose his spot in the national team with all the travel or could just be surplus to requirements.
As a Slovak I can say he’s already sliding down the order in the national team. He was getting good game time until last year, but this year he barely played (even though he always got the call up). Not sure he’ll make the cut for Euro, but it feels a bit like return to Slovakia for one more season might be in order - there’s been rumours in Slovak media that Slovan Bratislava might be interested. Holosko did the same after leaving Sydney.
However, the arrival of Róbert Mak, raised by the club, whose contract at Sydney FC came to an end, looks more realistic now. Mak would come for free, which is extremely advantageous for Slovan.
“I am a Slovan fan and I will forever remain one! That’s why I really want to wear the sky blue jersey again one day and be able to play in Slovan’s new stadium,” Mak said back in 2018, when Slovan was building a new stadium. He was 27 years old then.
