We had an old Gray-Nicolls that was an absolute tank when playing. You could barely lift the thing, but when you connected, holy crap! Not sure how much it cost but it was a beautiful bat. We got our first one about 30 years ago, had to replace it after 5 years when some kid at a park used the striking end to hammer in a whole load of wickets (massive dents and cuts which his family paid for). My brother used it for 10 years before I took over. I think we may still even have it somewhere.
Afaik for most players these days the stickers are just that, and bear little resemblance to the actual manufacturer (although per ICC rules they do have to be a bat manufacturer).
New Balance expanded their range to bats, just as they started sponsoring Steve Smith over a decade go.
Kurtis Patterson keeping himself in good nick with 137 for Australia A against England Lions.
With Khawaja almost done purely for age reasons and Marnus on the slide, there’s always a chance for something to open up if you keep piling on the runs.
What a great time for a test match. Just finished work for a Friday arvo, listening to some music while drinking a cold beer. The cricket on the big screen on mute. Life is good
Got to the ground for start of the second session for the girls game, $4 tickets for kids ftw. And unusually I didn’t have to convince them that my 6 foot 2 son is actually 15, they took my word for it. :).
India using the rules to their advantage against the English overnight… replacing a batting “all rounder” (he’d bowled one IPL over this season) with a seam bowler due to concussion. Hardly like for like…
