Sack the Board: the Cricket thread I

We had an old Gray-Nicolls that was an absolute tank when playing. You could barely lift the thing, but when you connected, holy crap! Not sure how much it cost but it was a beautiful bat. We got our first one about 30 years ago, had to replace it after 5 years when some kid at a park used the striking end to hammer in a whole load of wickets (massive dents and cuts which his family paid for). My brother used it for 10 years before I took over. I think we may still even have it somewhere.

Afaik for most players these days the stickers are just that, and bear little resemblance to the actual manufacturer (although per ICC rules they do have to be a bat manufacturer).

New Balance expanded their range to bats, just as they started sponsoring Steve Smith over a decade go.

The wood is dried out to remove unproductive weight.

Pickup matters a hell of a lot more than weight

Kurtis Patterson keeping himself in good nick with 137 for Australia A against England Lions.

With Khawaja almost done purely for age reasons and Marnus on the slide, there’s always a chance for something to open up if you keep piling on the runs.

Josh Philipe also cashed in, ended on 120*

What a great time for a test match. Just finished work for a Friday arvo, listening to some music while drinking a cold beer. The cricket on the big screen on mute. Life is good

Time to see how the girls are going down in Melby

Got to the ground for start of the second session for the girls game, $4 tickets for kids ftw. And unusually I didn’t have to convince them that my 6 foot 2 son is actually 15, they took my word for it. :).

Gorgeous afternoon down here for cricket

ICC site will direct you to tickets.lords.org

I am already there.

You might be able to get in and log in early to beat the que to get into the Lords site.

Got tickets for all 4 days at the WTC final 40GBP each was a nice surprise given seats in the same spot for the Ashes in 2023 cost 170GBP each.

Which stand are you in?

Compton Upper

We had similar seats in 2023 but are a bit straighter on this time.

Will try for the members again on day 5 through the WACA reciprocal rights.

We were there in the Warner upper for the Bairstow stumping so have very fond memories.

Were they as upset as I hope they were?

Maybe even more so.

So many gin soaked old red trousered and even redder nosed Brexiteers losing their minds.

If they did that at any GA area in Australia let alone a members reserve they would have been punted within minutes.

The guys that do the Grubs skits for Sportsbet were just in front of us and we were absolutely pissing ourselves.

Probably doesn’t help that you can bring your own booze into Lords.

Great spot to watch cricket though.

Many years ago, I used to go to the tavern stand with my grandad - only the SCG can hold a candle to the stadium for atmosphere

India using the rules to their advantage against the English overnight… replacing a batting “all rounder” (he’d bowled one IPL over this season) with a seam bowler due to concussion. Hardly like for like…

Just flicked it on. Looks like the Test is almost a wrap already. Australia didn’t mess around.

Both the men and women 1 wicket away from winning, at the same time. Pretty good day for Aussie cricket

Pretty awesome they both won within a minute of each other

India’s woes continue. They’ve had a shocker in the first Innings against New Zealand. All out for 46.
