Sydney Supercup Nov 2022 - Rangers, Celtic

I’d completely forgotten about this malarkey, only reminded when an Ange interview interrupted Guus’s public holiday last week.

Will probably go to our game against Celtic and use it as an opportunity to sit elsewhere in the new stadium, given the Cove will (as always with these things) not be it’s usual self.

Was there a discount code for SFC members? Would have been ages ago, muchas gracias if anyone can remember and advise.

I feel like the Cove presence at these exhibitions has dissolved over time with experience. I remember at the Beckham/Galaxy game back in 2007 there was considerable Cove presence including a message banner. In 2017 against Arsenal, which was the next time I went to an exhibition match, there was no official Cove presence as was officially announced on social media. There were Cove members scattered in the north end but no banner, no drum, no capo. I understood, and I only bothered to pay and see us play a friendly exhibition match because it was against Arsenal. But it did draw comparisons against the presence of the RBB on the Saturday (I think it was the Wanderers’ first exhibition match, so they hadn’t had the experience before.). I believe at the Liverpool match which preceded it that same off-season, Addison (LFC supporter) and a few others were threatened by security for their use of drums and standing, etc. Pretty shit to pay that money for a friendly which is all about the foreign team, only to be threatened by security. Not worth it.

So the Everton v Celtic fixture at Accor has been shifted to mid-afternoon…

Very strange. Horrible times for any English/Scottish TV viewers.

Maybe the organisers can’t afford to pay for the lights

Utterly bizarre so close to the game. Surely that’s grounds for a refund if you can no longer make it?

Or they’ve figured nobody is going?

They should have just canned it once Rangers pulled out, or just kept it to Celtic and switched Rangers-Wanderers for Celtic-Wanderers.

Anyone want to tell them that Sunday 2.45pm isn’t actually traditional UK kickoff time?

Is Toffeemen a thing?

Perhaps holding the game in the early afternoon is a feeble attempt to prevent the Celtic/Everton fans from getting absolutely trolleyed by the time an evening kickoff would have been held. However knowing Celtic fans especially they’ll just start drinking at 7am to ensure maximum shitfaceness has occurred by 2:45pm.

Knowing Celtic fans, they’ll still be shitfaced from the 7am drinking session the day before

DAZN Italy is showing the Celtic - Sydney game live on their platform in Italy. It’s the same platform which covers all of Serie A and B. The match will be broadcast at 9:45am Thursday, so all the over 65’s, the unemployed and the confused about life ones will have the pleasure of seeing the mighty skyblues before they all go on about their day. :muscle::laughing:

I don’t understand why they didn’t just hold all the games on the weekend. Would have made more sense.

Still won’t hold a candle to the Sydney Festival of Football.

Anyone going? Years ago I used to turn up to any visiting Euro team playing a friendly, but these days I can’t bring myself to fork out for them… the Arsenal game was my last, and didn’t bother with Barca vs All Stars…

I might wait for the inevitable $20 tickets

I was thinking about it, but honestly can’t be bothered. Pulling out all the Fairweather excuses. Too far to travel after work, too far to go home afterwards, too expensive, and I don’t want to deal with Eurosnobs who have been on the piss all day taking the mickey out of my club and the A-League.

I think the wife has arranged for us to go to a friends for dinner that night as well. So a free meal, cooked by someone other than myself and a couple of beers.

I’ll watch the replay when I get home, but honestly don’t care too much about it. Doesn’t even feel like a “organized tournament”. They could have done so much more with the break, brought back the Pan-Pacific Championships, had 2 A-League, J-League and MLS clubs all playing in a round-robin style format over the course of a week.

I haven’t been to a game like this since the Festival of Football so I bought a ticket for this but have been regretting about going ever since I paid for the ticket.

Absolutely no interest in this

however, hope the team uses it to get some continuity so we can attack the league after the world cup break

Zero chance of me going unless we were playing Everton. Is this even televised, probably tune in for 5-10 to see how bad we suck if so.
