I was into my 30s when I got my moto license. If you’re prepared to deal with the weather issues a small 125cc motorcycle or a scooter makes getting around the IW, city and Eastern Suburbs much, much easier. Fuel is cheaper than the bus too.

One of the big questions for me is what methods they are using to refine synthetic fuel, and what methods they are using to transport it. The paper below lists some of the potential environmental risks and impacts of transportation:
Hang on, I thought we were all about bright colours?
You’ll never lose it in a car park and they are great in those momenta where you want people to; “just get out of my way, I want to zoom past you on the other side of the road” but not so good just cruising quietly at 50 km/h through some random NZ country town.
God. How boring.
Why is your car colour so boring?
Actually, tbh, the yellow does look much better.
Send your complaint to Europcar at Auckland AIrport, they gave me the blue on. The office at Chrischurch Airport gave me the yellow one.
Yea, as much as I like the idea of red and yellow, it’s grey for me!
Also had my bike licence since my late 20s.
Had old vespas for much of my time riding in the IW, which was perfect. Got an Enfield Continental GT some years back. Loved it intially, however after a combination of increased traffic and coming off it… it’s now stored in my son in-laws garage.
Thinking about an old Vespa again.
Spot on advice above wearing the right gear,.
I’ve been riding scooters for 20 years. I can fully endorse getting a scooter if you are going to stick to lower North Shore/City/IW etc. As Hilly says, get proper safety gear.
Just remember that proper safety gear is a pair of pluggers and a bintang singlet.
Motorbike or scooter in the city is the BEST.
Bad opinion
Really enjoyed using my vespa in the IW/city. It’s just so much better and fun than being in a car, I always seethe with rage when stuck in traffic in a steel cage.
I echo the advice to avoid motorways with the scooter. They are great in 40-70km range but just don’t have the zip above that, well most of them don’t anyway.
However, unfortunately I think I’m going to be selling my vespa as I’ve been much more focused on the pushbike these last 2 years and so have hardly used the vespa to the point where the battery keeps going flat. Anyone looking for one, happy to talk, once I’ve put a new battery in it and got it moving again. It’s even got a nice Sydney FC-friendly colour, like this baby:
(not sure if this is the right place to flog stuff)
Like Arlo used to say, I see alot of flash motors here.
This is what people with four kids buy ( well I do, I hate SUV’s & always have ). Hyundai Staria. It’s great.
I’m sceptical but there need to be an alternative to EV. The amount of times I’ve either nearly been wiped out or have seen others nearly hit by en EV coming around a blind corner (mainly in high turn over car parks) is a concern.
And until the whole charging process can replicate a 10min trip to the servo to fill can be replicated, I don’t see EV’s taking over the market as it’s expected to without further development (let alone the Gulf region relinquishing that much coin and power through oil).
Like being able to charge at home and never visit a servo again?
If you’re talking about the noise, we can just play a sound out of the front?
I mean when cars first came out, they could drive only a few km’s, were ridiculously loud and ridiculously dangerous, not to mention the cost. They worked out fine in the end didn’t they?
Yeah but where else can I swing past and pay $10 for a litre of milk?
Oh my bad, I’m referring to the time it takes to charge an EV to full battery. Charging them at home on a typical 240V supply isn’t great.
Also taking them long distances I’m told aren’t ideal.
I’m a total novice with EV and a lot of the feedback is me asking those that have them to find out if I commit or not in the near future. I’m all for improving the way we do things but I get the impression more technological development needs to occur.
