The NRL Thread- Everyone gets a coach

There’s no professional level ground between the bridge and the Gosford, west of the Northern Beaches and east of SOP, in my opinion. Gore Hill Oval, Chatswood, Oval North Sydney Oval are all semi-professional at best.

The NRL needs less Sydney teams, not more.

Reducing the number of Sydney teams wont change anything.

I wasn’t necessarily advertising for the Norths to be in the NRL, just pointing out that the North Shore lacks a good outdoor stadium.

Northern Suburbs rugby, the Bears and North Shore Bombers all use these grounds regularly, as well as the women’s Sixers, Swans, international cricket, and SOO occasionally. Wouldn’t be the worst thing to have done investment in these grounds.

And if we want to cull some Sydney NRL teams, start with Western Sydney. They have the Panthers, the Eels, the Dogs, and half of the Tigers.

NRL needs more Sydney teams. Get Norths, Newtown and Glebe back in the comp. Melbourne Storm out.

The nostalgia! I had so many of these

Starting my traditional fire-up for Grand Final day by watching the Koori Knockout. The first game has already delivered. For one conversion, one linesperson put their flag up and the other left it down. Haven’t seen that in ages!

That’s rarer than a differential penalty.

I’m doing what the APL wanted me to do with the ALM GF and attending the NRL GF as a neutral. Helps that I don’t have an NRL team to wish was there instead.

Good luck to the Bunnies, Knights and Riff against the (Brisbane) Tigers, Titans and the Broncos. I don’t usually buy into State of Origin shit when it’s not the Origin, but…again, no NRL team.

Any new south Welshman under the age of 20 should be publicly humiliated if they want a Brisbane win today.

Panthers “arrogance” pales in comparison to the broncos been the 1990’s - 2010’s

Seems like quite a few fans of other NSW teams are sick of the Panthers, judging by comments I overheard at the fan fest. Probably Tall Poppy Syndrome.

I can’t speak to the rivalry with the Eels though. If somebody tried to convince me to support the Wanderers over any interstate team I’d tell them to piss off.

Their fans have been insufferable cunts for the 25 years I’ve been regularly going to/watching games and the Club has caught up over the last few years themselves.

I also like Adam Reynolds and it was sad to see him leave Souths, so I would have no problems with him winning a premiership.

Very annoying fanbase, absolutely. For years so many Panthers fans complained about an NRL/referee conspiracy against them (must be a western Sydney thing) but haven’t heard that in a while.

I don’t want to see any team other than the teams I support win 2 or 3 in a row, and Penrith are close to the bottom of the preferred teams I would be happy to see do that.

I get people want someone else than Penrith to win the Grand Final. Same thing happened with Melbourne, the Roosters, Manly, Brisbane and Canberra at some point in my lifetime. But wanting a team majority-owned by NewsCorp to win the Grand Final?

SELLOUTS!

Don’t think it really exists, it’s only since the HAL’s proper Sydney derby that NRL media types have tried to ham up Parra v Penrith as a local derby also. Although in the pre-HAL days I used to alternate going to Eels and Panfas games as the ex was from out that way, so if anything I have a soft spot for them from those days watching Presto, Reg Wiser and co every couple of weeks. The 2003 GF also remains the highest quality game of rugby league ever played.

Agree someone does need to point the record books out to present day Penrith fans though, they’ve still got at least 8 more to go after tonight to have any legit claims of “best ever”.

While I don’t disagree that the St George team have a very unique record and a very unique place in history, I’d be interested to see if St George had any sort of financial advantage at the time. They certainly took advantage of the rule set at the time, just like Penrith are now. Penrith probably don’t get to four straight grand finals without the set re-start rule coming in. The Panthers have had a very physical style and a high level of intensity and fitness for a long time.

As for a rivalry with Parra, they’re just the closest team to us. The only time I ever really hated them was in the late noughties, when they had Jarryd Hayne, and at least half the team/club seemed to be into Hillsong and we were all told how awesome it was. It was incredibly vomit-worthy, and history has only proven how vomit-worthy it was. In the last 5-7 years, I would simply label them as local rivals. I put the Roosters, Manly (of course) and the Storm higher on my Panthers rivals list these days.

Penrith SG Ball side would wipe the floor with St George. While 11 wins its impressive, there so many asterisks attached to it that its pretty much another sport

Bunnies with the State Championship. These Brisbane big cats are having a bad weekend. May it continue to next weekend.

True, but to me it was always a Parra and Canterbury or Manly rivalry. The Penrith and Parra rivalry is only a recent thing and I have a feeling it mostly Penrith fans thinking that way, not Parra fans.
