The Seria A Thread

For those interested, the Serie D groups has been released. I’m highly interested in Girone F.
The fact that all these clubs Ancona, Civitavonese, Fermana, Sambenedettese, Avezzano, Chieti, Teramo, Notaresco, Termoli and Sora have a great football history and good support will make this season’s 4th division in this part of the peninsula very entertaining.

There are a huge amount of clubs from the north and central parts of Italy compared to the south that compete at a professional level. As per case, only some clubs in group G and groups H and I are from the southern parts or the mezzogiorno.

Sambenedettese is one of my favourite club names in the world of football. If I ever fire up FM again, I really need to give them a crack.

You should definitely do it! :muscle:

The club is based in Le Marche, in the region of Ascoli Piceno on the small Adriatic coastal town named San Benedetto del Tronto.
Great club and fans with good history in the Italian football universe. They’ve had many ups and downs, currently the squad play in Serie D, with a few hopeful promotions in the last few years but nothing came out of them.
I don’t personally believe Sambenedettese has ever played in Serie A, but they have ultimately in the last years bounced around Serie D and Serie C, also called Lega Pro for some technical reason.
The current symbol for the club comes the statue of a fisherman placed near the little port, that holds a lot of history in this part of Italy.

The squad plays at the Riviera delle Palme, named after and which is noted for the hundreds, if not thousands of palm trees that surround the city and it’s coastline in particular. The stadium itself is just a stones thrown from the coast itself.

The fans/ultras alike generally now support behind the banner Ultras Samb, even though there have been a few other groups in different parts of the stadium. One particularly important group in the ultras world was a group called L’Onda d’Urto 1977.
Fans or Ultras of Civitanovese and Rimini are close friends, aswell as groups Fedeyan and Boys from Roma. Also friends with group Schickeria of Bayern Munich, their banners can be seen at many important matches at the Stadio Riviera delle Palme.
The biggest rivalry is with fans/ultras from Ascoli, but also heated with Ancona and Lanciano and Lazio.

How do they determine the groups in Serie D?

my girlfriends local side, Real Calepina based In Grumello del Monte in the province of Bergamo has been put in group C, then the next town over to the east, Palazzolo (5 min drive), is in group B. Geographically doesn’t really make sense as Real Calepina has sides in the Dolomites, then Chievo Verona in Group B has a Milan side even though Grumello is 50mins closer to Milan and Verona closer to Dolomites.

:point_up_2:this cut out from the article says that Group C will have 11 squads out of 13 from Veneto region (Chievo and Vigasio go into group B). Perhaps it is to create the best competition possible when possible.
The league states that the Serie D clubs are placed geographically as best as possible.

Then again, it’s the FIGC and could just be corruption, superstition or an accident.

Yeah maybe they look at finishing positions from previous seasons to create groups that are more even.

Can’t see Roma doing too well this season. Looks like Dybala is off to Saudi too, I guess it’s best to cash in on him, his injuries are mental.

Saw Cittadella’s stadium the other day, really nice city, the stadium is right next to the old town and it’s walls, you have a nice view of the stadium standing on the walls.

Serie A:

Genoa-Inter (2-2) Inter escaped with a draw on Saturday evening Serie A match against the home squad Genoa. A difficult match for both, especially under the late summer sun, there wasn’t a dull moment in 100’ min. You could say, Genoa almost grasped a win with luck involved when you regard a late hand ball call in the inter box that resulted in the late equaliser. Inter’s attacker Thurman scored twice for the champions that should keep the nerazzurri somewhat content. Solid tifo display from the genoani which I will post below.

Parma-Fiorentina (1-1)

Serie B:

Brescia-Palermo (1-0) A late goal squeezed past the visiting palermo posts to the advantage of the home squad Brescia to steal the three points on the opening serie b match day. The match, which was played on Friday evening Italy time, was very tense and difficult to unblock between the two squads hopeful for an excellent serie b season. In the end Brescia found the difference. The tifoserie from both clubs were good in voice. There were many in brescia’s curva nord  and very enthusiastically pushed their squad on the field through out the match by means in songs and chants, flag waving and hand clapping in unison, also a great following from the many visiting Palermo supporters.

Serie A: The first weekend in football in Italy arrived and went as quickly as a lightning bolt but we did feel the impact.
Some points of interest were that Inter and Juventus look to have a good season ahead. Despite a 2-2 draw away against Genoa, Inter played well, and will grow from this.
Interestingly there are two French brothers who will play together in Serie A this season, one is Markus Thuram, infact already began strong and scored 2 goals for Inter on Saturday and the other is Khéphren Thuram who plays for Juventus. Also had a good game too against Como on Monday evening.
Speaking of Juventus, this new squad looks promising, creative and organised. Vlahovich and Yildiz played well. Looking forward to see what this club can do, also now with a “new direction” of the newly appointed manager Thiago Motta.
Priefly, Napoli had a shocker opening day away at Verona. Losing 3-0, never seemed to be in the match. Also, Roma on their opening match against Cagliari looked to be missing quality. There has been speculation on Dybala leaving for Saudi Arabia, however this morning he has said he will remain at Roma, in-fact even saying “see you on Sunday”.

Serie B: like it’s big brother, serie b kicked off in style with newly promoted Juve Stabia showing quality away at Bari 1-3. Another match interesting imo was Salernitana against visiting Cittadella, who also came back to win 2-1 after being a goal down early. I watched the match Cesena against newly promoted side Carrarese. Great match, the emiliani (cesena) win 2-1 on the day.
