The travelling circus: stadia discussion

C’mon nimbys

In a world first people will have moved into the area before the noise commenced.

But why?

More functions for the ground and more people using it, more chance it will be looked upon kindly for more $ for renovations and redevelopments.

From what I hear Mayor Darcy is terrified of those Balmain nimby’s.

So this bar has already been forced to close permanently, just 4 months after opening.

That’s unfortunate but maybe the concept is a little too early in this country. I guess big women’s sport events are still not regular enough here to make a women’s sports bar financially viable. Maybe give it ten years or so, it could be a different story. It would be cool if it could happen.

Was never going to last. I went in there after our game v Western United. It was dead.

It was a cute idea but it was never going to last. The food was bang average as well.

They’d have been better just advertising a regular sports bar that was pro Women’s sports.

Everytime I’ve been in a pub that’s had womens sport, nobody has paid the slightest iota towards it.

I don’t think it was because it was a women’s sports bar. It was at the wrong end of Oxford St, but rents would have still been astronomical. Near impossible for even the best bar in the world to make ends meet.

Developers had their way with the cross, now it’s Oxford St turn.

Agreed not the best location but I suspect not particularly cheap, and a few other restaurants and even a pizza shop have struggled in the vicinity.

I don’t think the focus was necessarily women’s sports but more a safe space for women, particularly minority LGBTQI women to watch sport of all types, and I don’t have the qualifications to comment on that.

Now is not the time to be opening a bar, even well established pubs are struggling and/or closing.

I’m not sure that the market is there for the product they were offering and if, as reported above, the food was average, then there’s very little reason for someone to go there.

Totally agree. With pubs struggling, you’ve really got to offer something special to get people in the door. If the food’s just average, it’s hard to see how they’d keep up.

Not enough comments on how it is the only stall open for about 1/4 of the stadium!

That said, I’ve eaten this twice & it’s very tasty

If crowds continue to drop like Wed,

Justin Hemmes operating a hotdog stand might be the only food option next game - gotta cut costs when the revenue dries up.

Is the hotdog guy still selling food poisoning on the side of the road after games?

I get you were making humour but that crowd had mitigating circumstances and came just a week after a very healthy 20,000 went home happy.

So many of the food outlets were closed for the Melbourne game too, and those that were open had massive lines and alot of items sold out, despite the 20k crowd…

I don’t bother eating at the stadium specifically because things are regularly not open. The chicken shop is shit and nothing else on the west side is reliably open. Condition me to not bother and I won’t.

Salsipão is the pick of the food options at the moment.

Jimmy’s Felafel is good but they’re not filling enough, and pretty much everything else is run of the mill stadium scran.

I admit I haven’t tried the healthy bowl thing, and the dumplings/sushi seem way too much coin for what you get.

The pizza got good reviews here on the forum, and I’m yet to try it as it always looks like more of a focaccia with stuff on top than a pizza to me, but I’m willing to hold judgement on that.

The taco joint never seems to be open any more, and Krispy Kreme is not a meal (according to my wife).
