The travelling circus: stadia discussion

This is something that shouldn’t be dismissed. If we were to permanently relocate to Kogarah it opens the possibility for another Sydney team to enter the A League and play out of Moore Park (“Sydney City” or similar). While it hasn’t been very successful, Melbourne Heart did happen, so it’s not an impossible scenario.

Using Kogarah as a bargaining chip with the SCG trust is great, with the threat that if they don’t take our demands (and the other codes) seriously then we will play out of Kogarah permanently once our contract expires. The SCG trust have a lot more clout than the individual tenants when if comes with pressuring the state government.

My opinion though is that we need to play out of Moore Park, and should play 1-2 regular season rounds at Kogarah (at least one would be required anyway with either concerts or re-turfing always making Allianz unavailable at some point during the season), all ACL games at Kogarah, and FFA Cup games at Leichhardt.

You have to wonder how many of the 17.5k who turned up last night would continue to support Shire FC though. A quarter to a third of members are from the shire and south Sydney at last count; the rest are travelling extra distance to Kogarah because it’s Sydney FC.

By all means use it as a bargaining chip with the Trust and for the odd non-league match, but moving there permanently is a fast track to becoming a minor suburban club with a fraction of our current support.

These little suburban grounds are a novelty that wore off after about 2 games . The whole match day experience is significantly lessened. The sooner we get back to Moore park the better .

Agree. I can’t see myself continuing to travel from the northern beaches to Kogarah if they move it there permanently. Also really miss the social aspect of meeting up with friends before and after games around the precinct and Paddington/Surry Hills.

Have to agree there.

A huge advantage of Moore Park is that to get there you simply catch a train to Central then walk or bus (now light rail) up to the stadium. We also retain our identity as a Sydney club that plays in a central location rather than a suburb in the south of the city, and does not isolate those from several pockets of Sydney for whom Kogarah doesn’t feel like home.

I echo the sentiments of many who feel that the matchday experience at Kogarah cannot match that of Moore Park. I used to make a day of game days and eat/drink in the city before heading to the game and miss this aspect since our move to Kogarah.

Look, I love the proximity of Kogarah to the Shire and it’s a gazillion times better than that shithole at Leichhardt but our home is Moore Park.

You can’t beat the nearby pubs etc in the city plus it’s the easiest place for most people to get to.

Leichhardt is a shithole that is 5 minutes by car for us.

With the amateur hour like way that infrastructure in this state is done we’re not leaving Kogarah for 3 years at least so we best learn to get used to it.

Any good pizzeria’s around Kogarah? That one at St George League Dump is an insult to Italians.

Unfortunately the best pizza in the shire is all the way down at Cronulla (Queen Margherita).

Worth the extra travel, but not really a game day option.

There’s an excellent pizzeria in Kogarah between the train station & hospital.

Kogarah is doing ok as a temporary home but we need to get back to Moore Park. And the new light rail will also improve the matchday experience for fans.

What about the Kogarah El Jannah? Any good?

Yes!

I’d love to see us keep some connection to Kogarah after we move back though. Maybe have 2-3 home games there?

Danny T is really pushing this and kudos to him for making such a fuss about it.

Just get someone’s nonna to sew a curtain ffs.

Looks like it will just be a huge fuckoff ad. In which case I hope it it will be configurable for or even complete blank out, other wise we’ll need the world’s largest piece of tape for AFC events.

That’s a pretty big roll of tape  .

If it’s an LED curtain then this wouldn’t be an issue. If they were to instead get a sponsor to fund the curtain, but have it as non-LED with their ads all over it then the worst case scenario would be that the curtain would be open for ACL games.

If somehow the LCD curtain went ahead then for the ACL games we put up an image of a brilliant seafood spread.

This will also help get the AFC officials on our side as they can see what is waiting for them post match. Will also alleviate any diving to waste time as the officials will be too tempted by the seafood waiting for them that they will just play on to get the game over with.

How much did the curtain cost? About $50M iirc.

The cunts have just spent that on a roof for the tennis centre that literally gets used for one week a year (my mates and I have hired centre court at $200/hour before for a laugh, and can safely say casual users have no need for even the existing roof).
