So this is the spill way at Chifley Dam just before 10am.
The 86mm we got last night is apparently the heaviest rain in about 25 years here. The river is at 6.28m in town. The levee breaks at about 6.9m I think.
The water is apparently falling. We get more rain thou …
My old man was up at Wyangala a couple of weeks before this and he said the level dropped by a couple of metres just while he was there because they were letting water out from the last lot they’d had.
Crazy to think that it wasn’t so long ago that it was down to single digit capacity right?
When the dam filled here it went from about 60% to 103% in a matter of days. And it hadn’t even rained that much. That was my introduction to the saturation of water tables. Not something I’d ever noticed in the mountains or Sydney.
And the water table is still saturated and will be for a while. And a 86mm storm to it …
And these aren’t big rivers out here. The Macquarie goes up and down really quickly.
We’ve just had a couple of days in a row above 35 and it’s been above 30 for about a week straight now.
Overnight temperature has been in the high teens.
