The weather thread: smalltalk edition

A portugese quarter pterodactyl and chips would be epic.

Plenty spare for the seagulls to steal.

Probably a bit “gamey”

Ex TC Ellie has been quite an interesting bit of weather.
It’s been hanging around in some form since around the 20th of December. It finally formed into a cyclone and crossed the coast on 23 December and weakened back into a low. It headed almost to the centre of the NT but instead of being picked up by a front and dragged over to the East Coast it has gradually moved NW and is likely to reform into a TC today or tomorrow when it gets back over the sea off the Kimberley coast. After that it’s going to come back across land, weaken, and more than likely get picked up by a front and dragged East by the end of the week.
While it has dumped a whole lot of rain it hasn’t been destructive, just hung around.

I can’t think of another single weather system that has lasted so long. By the time it is on it’s way to NZ it would’ve been active over Australia for 3 weeks.

Lucky I didn’t end up driving to Darwin via Alice

Which way did you go?

Qantas :frowning:

Ha!

We’re going up to Kingscliff and it’s meant to rain all week :frowning:

There may be a low coming down the coast next week so it might be a bit more than just rain.

That’s a cute way of saying “mini tropical cyclone”

Somebody in the office made a joke about putting windshield wipers on the office windows as it’s been raining sideways all day, and we can’t see outside

Sometimes we get lucky and they’re actual cyclones

Doesn’t look like it will happen now though, it’s been picked up by the front and taken towards Norfolk Island & NZ.

I just got back from Fiji and the last two days there was exactly like today here, except ten degrees colder.

Well thats what you get for trying to do something nice.

It was my first day back at work today so, all those of you who are still on holiday can thank me for today’s weather later.

So Sydney apparently hasn’t had a day above 30C in 323 days and it’s been over 12 months since we went above 32C

When they say that do they mean the whole Sydney metropolitan area, or just Sydney as in the City.

It got out to 32 degrees out near Campbelltown just the other day.

Observatory Hill

Observation noted.

Some bloody heavy rain this afternoon. Started as soon as I pulled out for the drive home and didn’t end until I hit the edge of the city. Low points on every road I traveled starting to flood. Hopefully that’s eased a bit.
