Sad news, just when he was about to get to tick that box of playing Champions League too.
And for Sydney it adds the problem of losing Redders to Socceroos duty now. 99% he will be one of the 3 keepers.

Alex Mullen and Iain Fyfe playing for Campbelltown against Melbourne City
maybe this is the wrong place for this, but why did the club ever stop using that Jimmy Barnes song âSydney FC for me!â? I watched again recently and think it is great (and yes, all tastes are tastes) but it could really do with with better quality video showing recent triumphs rather than just Dwight and Season 1.
A video that showed some memorable highlights from eg Dwight, Juninho, ADP, Bimbi, Brosque, Aloisi, Carney, Ninko, Milos D, Bobo, Holosko, Nicky Carle, R. Grant, Ryall (âremember me?!â), Kisel and GKs would look great.
Itâs just a bit gimmicky though isnât it? Club songs like that always make me cringe.
Like this one: YouTube
Itâs just a bit lame.
I rather like that WSW song, but prefer Jimmyâs for us. Why not get eg Renee Geyer to do the one for the womenâs team?
Gimmicky, can be, (see Juve egs below) but watching Inter take the Scudetto a few yearâs back at San Siro and 60, 000 fans sing this was really an experience (and I donât even like Inter).
YouTube and the team singing it (and what a team) YouTube
not a fan of songs specifically made for teams. I donât mind it when their organically made but forcing it just seems cringe worthy at times.
Yeah completely agree. I think you can argue that we have âWe are Sydneyâ which has organically become our clubâs song.
if itâs not Knick-Knack Paddy-Whack then itâs not anything!
Yep, same with me. I love âWe are Sydneyâ. Iâd cringe though if the club decided to make it an actual song (not that they really could without copyright issues with Bonnie Tyler).
Having said that I admit that I like the Borussia Moenchengladbach song: YouTube
What could be more organic than âin our town / every man / he works hard like he playsâ or âwe wonât hold back / itâs all attack / in the A-League where we playâ?
Organic, wot, like LFC and âYouâll Never Walk Aloneâ? From that famous scouser musical, Carousel? Or Bohemian Rhapsody after winning our home games? Did Freddy and the boys think of us when writing it? I think the main thing is whether people like a song, see it as relevant to their club and want to sing it - and that it adds something to the match (see LFC or Inter Milan). In the case of some Italian clubs, well-known singer-songwriters pen songs for clubs they love and people think that is great. I never understood why SFC replaced Jimmy Barnes with Tommy Leonetti .
The use of bohemian rhapsody was fairly organic for us, sung during the farina years when we were shit, then started being sung by the cove after wins, to now being played after wins over the pa.
The Germans are mad for a bit of Country Roads. I asked one why everyone sings Country Roads all the time.
Itâs a good song to sing.
Thatâs your criteria.
I think itâs fantastic, honestly.
Now if only we could get Gloria- Laura Branigan as our walkout song, we will enter the pantheon of great football clubs.
No thanks. Alan Jones ruined that song for me and I have no wish for our club to associated with his so called fucking anthem.
Link/reference please? Have no idea what you mean.
Itâs the intro/outro to his radio show every fucking day.
Oh Jesus what a dickhead. Apologies, I actively avoid that cunt and his productions, has the complete capacity to ruin my day with just uttering a single word.
Once had a site visit for work during an audit with a wanker from another company who was trying to show off his flash car, shout me lunch, sweet talk me into expediting the audit and benefit his company. We get in the car to go to the next site and heâs got Alan Jones blasting the whole trip, needless to say I was far less willing to get the paperwork filed in a timely fashion for him. Total knob head.
YNWA was pretty organic. It was a famous pop song in itâs time and the club would play it in the same way you often hear Seven Nation Army etc. It became a crowd favorite and then became the club chant. The club never turned around and said âhey listen everyone, this is your new song, learn it.â
Fair enough it may work in Italy but Iâm just not a fan of it. Truthfully, I see it as being in the same box as a club organizing a tifo for itâs home supporters.
Wasnât YNWA played as part of the top 10 of the day. Anfield would countdown/play the top 10 songs of the week, or even just the number 1 song of the week it might have been, for pre-game entertainment at the time. YNWA was number 1 for so long and for so many weeks in a row that the crowd just got used to hearing it, started singing it, and never stopped.
